I'm in the process of designing a set of hi-steer arms for my 60. My question is, what is the minimum distance I can offset the rod end from center of rotation? The arm I have on right now has an offsett of 6.5" and I would like to move the hole in to get a better turning radius but I dont want to get it to short and stress out my steering box to badly. The one I have drawn up right now has the hole at 5.75 and on the screen it looks Ok but I want to get it right before I start writing the program. I've seen lots of pics from guys on here that were making them, what offset did you use?

Come on someone must know the minimum distance that is safe to mount the rod end from the center of the kingpin spring housing, help a brother out! I've got most of the program writin and I need to add in the drilling and reaming info, I'd like to get it done this weekend and machine it as soon as possible.

is the arm you have now really limiting your turning radius? When you turn full lock is are the knuckles hitting the steering stops? If so a shorter arm is just going to make it harder to turn. If your current arm does limit turning radius going a little shorter shouldnt hurt anythin. It may be eaiser just to find a longer pitman arm.

Ya It's not even close to the stops right now(a good 3/4" on each side) I think even with moving the hole in I'll still have to find a longer pitman. One more question, on my design the tie rod mounts at the end of the arm and the draglink on the inside, am I gonna run into and problems with that? Most Ive seen do it the other way.

this has been discussed before with the avalanche arms that have as many mounting holes as a slice of swiss cheese, as long as your arms are beefy and your not ridiculus it should be fine. 3/4 away from the steering stops  that sucks expecially in a big truck!

Oh they're plenty beefy, if I could figure out the clipboard feature(cracked version, and it doesnt want to work) I'd post pics. Ya the turning radius sucks its contributed to plenty of dents on tight trails, I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone with these, tighter turns and fewer taco'd tie rods. :D
