My "bling" 75 is my DD. That's why it has taken soooo loooonnnggg to get it done. I have to have it back together every night to drive to work the next day!!!
Of course it was nice to be topless and doorless and hoodless and front fenderless most of the summer!
Even went with out the windshield frame for a day!!
Then there was the week with out the rear quarter panel on.
Had to screw the tail light to the inner panel!

My 77 scout II is my only ride. I have two boys (3 1/2 and 1 1/2) that I take to day care every day. They love it, its cool in the summer with the top off. My oldest is always telling me to take the top off. I have driven it for about 4 years. I just cant make myself buy something new and make payments. I would prefer to put that money into one of my scouts. I also have a nice stock Scout 80 to spend $ on. No new car payments for me.

My scout is my DD. I try to get all my parts together and take some time off work when I get ready to do some mods. Its tough though when the engine died and the rollover. I wish I could build it a little more extreme but the fact that I love to drive it everywhere keeps me from getting too crazy. Its at the paint shop now and the last couple of days have sucked I've had to drive my 1974 Ford Ecololine DJ van. Not quite the same feeling.

First of all... I'm not a meany.... I'm really a nice guy... no really, I am.

I never ran track.... just don't have the knees for it

Never been to New England so I don't really need any transportation there.

What does a tiny hole in your skin have to do with any of this?

I'm not (stupid?) enough to have my IH's as my DDs. I have a nice late-model work truck as mine, and bought my wife an '04 SUV as hers. Start every time, modern heaters and weather-stripping, and if they break I take them to the repair shop (and warrantees).

IH's are play trucks, it would be cool to have one together well enough to be a daily, but impractical for me as I have my company truck.

Besides, I barely have time to wrench a little as it is, I'd hate to have to be wrenching just to get to work tomorrow.

To those that "extreme build" their DD's... I don't think that is wise. The more you tweak them, the more picky, contancuras, and quirky they get. Things don't perform as well as they used to, things don't act the same, things wear out faster and stresses are greater on some componants. Sure you can build a solid, reliable D60's, 38 tired, custom suspended rig.... but its REALLY hard to do when you need to rely on it everyday and can't tear it down for an extended period of time and take the time to tweak it and dial it in. Those people I would recommend an econo/DD rig and then have the Scout as a play rig, or get another to keep mild and reliable, so you can really play with the toy rig.

But that's just my opinion, and I could care less if you disagree. There are always exceptions, but it appears to be more the rule than the rarity.

Im one of the fortunates that has 2. My bone stock DD ('75) is as reliable as any vehicle I've ever owned newish or older ('89 YJ/'73 Electra), gets around 16 mpg (highway) which is better than the Electra (8) but not quite as good as the YJ (20). Because it is a bone stock carbureted vehicle it means I dont have to rely on others to find what code is faulting or deal with a morasse of vacuum hoses that might be leaking. Even the infamous "gold box" isnt a real issue if one happens to have a points dizzy waiting to be installed in the event it does die. Yea I could do the FI along with all the other "improvements" folks yak about but ultimately there is advantages in KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) designs... :D

Red was my DD far about a year. Believe it or not, the bikini top kept out a lot of rain and wind. People thought I was crazy for even considering driving a topless rig in the Oregon rain. Before that it was my 63 scout 80. that little beast just kept going... till second gear fell apart. But dont worry 'Project Polished Turd' will see DD duties here real soon.

It was fun driving IH's all the time but it was hard to pick up girls. Me and my buddies go to a bar and hook up with some girls, few days later meet em for lunch or something and have them see my 63 with the heavy factory rust option. If that didnt end it, the first time they got dirty getting in and out sealed the deal. If that didnt do it, it was bumming money to buy that 'emergency' part( wheel cylinder, U-joint).

Just shows you, "chicks dont like boys, chicks like cars and money." I have no problem getting girls with my Dodge.

I used to DD my Scout until I smashed it into a tree.. made it very uncomfortable in the winter w/ the drafty (more so b/c of the body damage) soft-top.

..So I bought a Travelall.. drove it for a few years.. finally bought another Scout II to daily drive this winter. Mostly stock, with a 4" lift and 33" ATs being the mods.

Still have my battered trail rig if I need it, my wife drive's her 68 800 when the roads are bad, and I have the 2wd 1T T'ette should the need arrive.. but it's a bit big and cumbersome to park. :D

It will be replacing my 1967 Dodge A108 van. I am moving into a new house where I have to have 4 wheel drive in the wintertime to get home.

I have a plethera of running IH rigs to drive daily. If one isn't running or needs help I drive one of the others. The one I like and drive the most tho' is a '76 Terra Rallye. It is all original w/ 345 727 20 3.07's and 29's. I paid $400 for it and put a tranny, water pump, freeze plugs, and a stereo in it and it has always run. It had one gold box in the ignition and one in the glove box. Had a freak dash fire but swapped harnesses and all lights gauges etc work. It is a true cream puff for highway driving. My trail rig could be driven daily except for the no doors and horrible mileage.

I have recently aquired a 1975 SII and I'm so lucky it is all original, and unmolested. 94,000 original miles, extremely clean. It is so recent, that I'm still having it Tuned and retired. The next money spent will be for some 2.5 in. lift springs.

My '77 is my daily driver when my other IH isn't running, my '95 F250 Powerstroke. That's pretty often. I just had to put an engine in the PSD last month and I think the junkyard engine may not have a whole lot of life in it. The Scout could become my permanent DD, which blows because then I can't wheel it. I'd end up breaking something and not being able to get to work on Monday to earn the money to fix it. It's a vicious cycle.

My 76 is my D/D (look to your left at my avatar). My TLC buddy calls it "The Carp" because it's orange and white like a Koi, and 'xCRPxxx' is the plate. Fawker!!! :flipoff2:

I mostly drive it daily to the bus stop (about five miles each way). About once a week (on average) I drive to San Francisco with it (about 50 mi each way). I use it for all of my running around, as well as driving to camping, hunting, and B/B type events. I've put about 15,000 miles on it since I resurected it two years ago. It's been to Tulare, Paynes Creek (and part of the Pelegrine Jeep Trail), and MANY other long drives.

I've replaced the cam/lifters, radiator, tires and battery(consumables), motor mounts, carb, and most of the charging circuit wiring. Not too bad for a $200.00 basket case. I've got another tub I'm prepping to replace this ex-Colorado rust special. I also yanked the clapped out Gold Box disty and put in a Delco points unit with a Pertronix conversion. A set of points and a pre-made points to coil lead is in the spares box.

I've mildly wheeled it several times (mostly hunting). I don't want to break the DD... It's running on gigantic 30x9.5x15 BFG ATs. They'll be replaced by 32x11.5x15s after the tub swap and a small spring lift. I'm gonna keep it spring under and MILD as it'll continue to be my DD/family outing rig. A family cage's in the works. I'm going to a D18 T/C so that I can run a Warn O/D (gotta get those R's down on the highway) and offset Waggy D44 rear. The T19close will eventually get swapped out for a wide (or will get gears from a 2WD T19wide). The 304 will stay until it eventualy dies, when it will be replaced with a 345, or MAYBE a 4BT.

My Scout 800 will be my builder. It's patiently waiting at my buddy's ranch. I'm not finished web wheeling and planning this one yet. I haven't decided how wild I want to go. It'll probably be SOA on 44044s, an 8 lug Dodge D44 front and a D60FF rear (or a FF converted D44) and 35s. The only thing that's certain is that it'll have a wide ratio four speed and will keep the powerhouse 196 (gotta love that heavy pig of a 1/2 motor!!!) :flipoff2:

The tow rig's a 71 1210 4X4 longbox Travelette (four door). It'll carry a cabover camper and tow a trailer. I'm going to swap out the closed knuc d44 front and D60 rear for a D60 front and 14bolt FF. Actually, unless a CHEAP D60 front comes my way, the first axle to go into the front will probably just be an open knuc 8 lug D44 (give me disc brakes and a LESS horrendous turning radius!) :D The bed will be swapped out for a flat bed with tool boxes. The 392 and T34 five speed will stay, with the possibility of swapping in a 6.9 or 7.3 IDI diesel and turbo in the future. Too bad a DT466 is too long and heavy...

If I only had ONE project, I'd be able to scrape the time and money to actualy make real progress. THREE on the other hand... :shaking:

My DD's are binders, i have a few to chose from and drive one a few days or a week and then go to the other. The one i drive the most is a 1980 Scout 2 Turbo Diesel, 4" lift 33/9.50's, then its the 1976 Scout 2 Rallye 304/auto stock 235's with working AC, or the 1972 1210 4x4 truck with 304 and t-19, Once in awhile i will drive the Trail rig 1976 Terra, 37's and 4.56's. 2 summers ago for about 2 months the Terra was the only one running so it was driven 125 miles round trip 6 days a week and that got pretty costly fast. Hope to have one of the C or D series rods up and going then one of them will be used as a DD.

I just started driving mine again yesterday! I enjoy every minute of it and even go out of my way just to make the drive last a little longer. :D

No dash or door panels and the exterior is no less than 10 different colors but with Dukguy's help and a few long nights of wrenching I finally got everything put back together enough to drive. Nay-sayers around the office wonder if I brought it to donate to charity or if I am trying to get a sympathy raise before the end of the year but I just shrug them all off.

Four plus long years of thinkin', dinkin', sweatin' and bleedin' and the light is hazzy - but visible - at the end of the tunnel! Finish off the interior and slap some paint on it and it will be done. Only four more years to go ...

I've been daily driving my 72 Scout since I bought it at age 16.

Of course thats only been like 4 years.

It has a 258 and I swapped in a t19 close. I get about 16 mpg driving all over NC.

My parents helped me get a Toyota with a 22re and called me an idiot for buying the Scout. Well the Toyota is long blown up and the Scout is running like a champ. I wheel it at Uwharrie national forest and drive it 100 miles to school.

Oh yeah I also have two more SII's and two 800's so I'm averaging over a Scout a year since I started.
