: Which and what year FJ's came with 4.10 gears stock? And fine spline pinions?

Not counting FJ-80's of course.

If I wanted to have a 55" wide off-set diff 'Cruiser axle with 4.10 gears and the fine spline pinion, could I get the axle from one vehicle or would I have to use a FJ-40 axle housing/shafts with a 3rd member from something else?

mid to late 70's...in 79, 3.7 became standard ratio with 4.1 optional.

Fine splines pinions are late 78 up (August 78? Rick d?)

In the US 4.11s are up to 12/78 then from 1988 to 1997. So you can find a late 1978 FJ40 or an FJ62/FJ80 third or rear FZJ80 third. Shouldn't have sold that electric locker to Morgan, huh? :D

Pinion flanges have different patterns. If you find a 62 or 80 third with a round flange it can be redrilled.

Most 30 spline SF short side axle shaft up to 1990 FJ62 will work. Long side only from 40 (or 70) series.

Aha, so if it has a round flange it's a fine-spline pinion?

Also, if all 40/60/62 series have c-clips rears, how could you use a rear 3rd from a non-c-clip 80 series? (In the front it would be no problem obviously.)

FJ-40's-1978 ONLY (this was the longest model year of any FJ-40, some of the earlier ones had coarse spline, but 90% have fine spline)

1979-1983 FJ-40's had fine spline 3.73's

1982-1987 FJ-60's same

FJ-62's 1988-1990 all have fine spline 4.11's
