thanks,
just finished the SYE install last night, but i don't have an allan key large enough to get the darn fill and drain caps off so it does't have any ATF in it at the mo,
thanks for the help.

My NP231 out of my 95 XJ doesn't have any plug caps but 2 big bolts for drain and fill plugs. Ones about a 30mm and the other 28mm or so. :flipoff2: :smokin:

The later 231s are different.

I didn't have that size either.

I found a bolt with a head the same size as the hex on the plug, put two nuts on the bolt, snugged them together so they can turn and made one.

I just went out and checked. My 3/8" allen socket works for it.

This isn't a flame, just FYI (I'm newbie-er than you are) but you can get one of those little 3-inch metal rulers for the tool box and always know what size tool to buy when you encounter a new size bolt or fitting.

Pull it out and take it down to a hardware store.

Yes, contrary to what your owners manual may show, my 231 has a fill and drain that are both (i think) 15/16" The way it showed it in the diagram would have been nearly impossible to access due to the close proximity of the catalytic converter. When I changed my fluid I spent about an hour scratching my head, then looked on line and found a good writeup and did the fluid change in about 10 minutes.
