: Smog legal DD 5.0 toyota - Project Mo Power..
Brandon 12-24-2004, 09:15 AM Where do I start..
I have been working on this one for 14 years so it is pretty much all gone through time and time again.
This truck has never been towed, drivin to the hammers, moab, and many many rubicon/fordyce/barrett trips. It was driven to Canada and back for the island rock crawl but that was back in 2000. Currently it gets me to work and has a charging issue. Other than the rear ebrake needing to be hooked up (it's there) there really aren't any problems.
Tons of pics here:

I'll post a few..
Interior: Seats are custom upholstered and the "covers" are removable and can be thrown in the washing machine. All autometer gauges, mojave heater, 8 speaker stereo system (2 10's, 2 6x9's, 2 tweeters, and 2 4" speakers), herculined floors, grant wheel, custom center console and modified in cab roll cage:

Engine: HO 302 w/Northern aluminum radiator and spal electric fan, modified mustang headers, mustang in-tank fuel pump in the toy EFI tank Engine has Saginaw steering pump, 180 amp 3G alternator, BBK intake, FlowKooler hi-flow water pump, stainless rad hoses, Competition Cams Timing set, ARP bolts and studs, etc.. I have been driving it to work daily and the cooling works great, no fan needed at all unless your sitting for a while and the spal fan quickly cools it right back down. It has passed smog twice now - no problems either time (the 4 banger was NEVER that easy!!). I had the heads redone last summer when I put in new headgaskets, the ARP studs, and the phenolic spacer. True dual exhaust with crossover and new cats.

The truck is convertible and with the top on it sits in my driveway and has kept dry all winter.

Brandon 12-24-2004, 09:17 AM This is from last summer (I have not broken any of the running gear since I put it in with 2 rubicon and one Fordyce run not bypassing anything - more of the rubicon pics up at offroadimage.com):

I could make this post pages and pages long but if your interest or just have questions shoot me an email at webmaster@RCRC4x4.com (I don't get on to the pirate site much since it is blocked by my work and the munchkins/projects keep me busy at home).
The best thing is how well this truck drives, it cruises at 80 mph and there is no steering stabizer. The steering wheel is smooth and you can let go of the wheel.. and hit the brakes.
$12k as is with the 8274 full stereo system tool box, yellow top etc. I'm willing to work partial sells as well and eventually I will have the body and frame left if nobody buys it which would be a perfect starter - just bolt on your goods. It stilla accepts all the stock stuff (other than the steering box) right down to the axles, and 22r (stock mounts are still there). It's registered and current (driven daily)
As mentioned above the only issue really is some charging issue. I can still drive it daily but if I stop for gas it doesn't want to start - like a dead battery. BUT if it sits for a bit it always fires right up. Starter must be getting hot but oddly it didn't do this a while back, could be alternator but I don't have to ever charge the battery and it always gets me to work and home - odd..
I've been noticing good deals on 5.0's lately which is why I am considering selling my truck whole - I'm starting a new project so if it doesn't sell I will use most of the parts and I will keep this thread updated..
shew!
Glenn 12-24-2004, 10:06 AM $1200 as is with the 8274 full stereo system tool box, yellow top etc.

Yup, funny story, traded it to moto on here for a 03 YZF250 bike, I'm back into dirtbikes again, also picked up a 5.0L powered 80 toy, lol might be tradin it off too. :)
good luck selling, smart $ is for someone to buy yours instead of building, they will save a ton of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Richard 01-02-2005, 11:06 PM zzzzzzz

are there pics of the 5.0 yota? Is it smog legal? I'd be interested to see how it was done since I went through it all. (Thanks for keepin this up Richard ;) )
Brandon 01-03-2005, 09:26 AM you think anyone would be interested in my truck as a "builder" once I pull the suspension and drivetrain out? It would be a flatbed convertible truck with all the mounts in place for wagoneer springs front and rear, and in cab cage, and a 5.0 (although the yota motor will still bolt in other than the radiator). The wiring would be setup for the 5.0, and I'll probably leave all the autometer gauges in the dash.
What would be a fair price for "the guts" of my truck ya think? Or ya think I'd just end up taking the sawzall and dumping the remains in the trash?

hard to say with this crowd
Brandon 01-03-2005, 08:07 PM true..
well someone make an offer for a buildable chassis - bolt on your wagoneer springs, engine of choice (a 350 should bolt right in too with the NWOR mounts), and drivetrain. Perfect for someone with a trashed or totalled 1st gen truck. It is convertible and depending on what you want can come so you just PLUG IN the wires from the ford harness (NO splicing), loaded with all the gauges prewired, stereo system, summer door inserts, custom upholstered SR5 bucket seats, custom speaker enclosures, full in cab roll cage with extra supports, flatbed with rear in tool box battery mount and main power kill switch on the dash. Wired with rock lights, caddy compressors, KC lights, etc.
Richard 01-04-2005, 06:10 PM I vote you pull all the parts for your Scout , then you can sell me the rock sliders :D TTT
Brandon 01-04-2005, 11:26 PM I should give them to ya since you are to a buy x parts and get the next free but I could sure use a few bucks :(
watcha gonna offer me? :)
They are 100% bolt on, and hopefully my frame hasn't bent such that they don't bolt on to yours (hey I thought you had a shortbed?)..
If you do a search for JSM nerf bars they are the first to pop up
http://www.off-road.com/toyota/reviews/jsm-nerfs/
:)
No drilling required!
I can't even tell you how much I used the things, they have gotten me through the sluice, soup bowl, and tons of places many many times..
Richard 01-05-2005, 07:21 PM I should give them to ya since you are to a buy x parts and get the next free but I could sure use a few bucks :(
mine is a long bed , I like the bolt on instead of weld on , are they set up for a body lift ??
Brandon 01-05-2005, 08:04 PM yep 2", that's right long bed like mine :)
I am sure it would be ok with a 3" too but it would be an inch away from the body.
Richard 01-06-2005, 04:40 PM mine doesn't have a body lift , will these work??
Brandon 01-07-2005, 07:24 AM well it will bolt on but it you'd have to cut a 2" notch in your body ;)
bummer
Richard 01-07-2005, 03:22 PM well it will bolt on but it you'd have to cut a 2" notch in your body ;)
