I'm trying to find a tool to cut the tapered holes for the cone washers on my d44 highsteer arms. Can someone point me in the right direction? I need to order it pretty soon (next few days). I'm building my steering arms and need it done by Jan. 6th.
Thanks!
Greg
Just the tool or the bit

use 5/8 or 9/16 lug nuts with the standard taper (60*?). that should be a much easier and cheaper tool and works just fine. I know of a legit shop that did this for a long time with no problems.

hmmm, that's a good idea. What's the thread pitch for the 5/8 lug nuts? Then I can just get a 60* countersink and do that. I've already got a 5/8-18 tap, that sounds about right for a lug doesn't it? I'll double check. Do you have a vehicle with 5/8 lugs that I can reference for the morons at the parts store? THanks!

got some 90* lug nuts and some 5/8 B7 all thread. Should match up together nicely. I just ordered a 1" diameter 90* counter sink for the nuts to seat on the high steer arms.

Just a thought for you....I taper arms by chucking them up in the four jaw on the lathe and bore the taper. No fancy tapered end mill needed!

If they are 60 degrees I know of 2 easy ways. If you can grind a drill bit I would get a large one and grind it to a 60 degree angle. Then drill the pilot hole to the size of the small end of the taper and you can figure out the rest. Or a easier way is to use a 60 degree countersink.
