: New Project
tribal4krawler 12-24-2004, 11:24 PM on tuesday one of my customers is picking up a 2004 F250 FX4 with 8,000 miles and a 8 inch lift and 37 inch Xterrains.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v444/tribaltalon/superduty3.jpg
Friday, he will be bringing the truck to my shop to get the bed bobbed, a custom coilover suspension installed, 40-42 inch Swampers (havent decided yet), a custom front stinger bumper with winch mount, rock sliders, and rear bumper, ARB lockers, gears, probably 5.13s, 35 spline (chromo?) outers and a full 2" DOM interior rollcage.
Ultimate Super Duty WHAT??? :flipoff2: :grinpimp: i'll be using this thread to update with pics starting on monday/tuesday whenever Chris (the customer) picks up the rig from the stealership.
so.. what do you think we're gonna break? and yes, this is for real. and no, its not going to be a show truck. See, chris, he LOOOOOOVES body damage. :grinpimp:
Junk Driver 12-25-2004, 12:44 AM Sorry to say but your customer has more money than brains!
That is a nice truck as it is. Not wheelable in my opinion but still nice.
RedNeckRea 12-25-2004, 02:36 AM must be nice to be able to throw down that kinda cash for something that is just gonna get munched up....
Skippie 12-25-2004, 06:37 AM I can't wait to see how this build up goes! ;)
tribal4krawler 12-25-2004, 06:40 AM yup thats exactly what i think. *shrugs* if anything it'll be a cool project to try to make into a capable wheelin rig, it'll be different from the typical jeep/toyota/blazer/broncos that you normally see out on the trail, which is the whole objective.. He does also have a 94 YJ that i'm building as well for an hardcore all out crawler.
MattyB4x4 12-25-2004, 03:10 PM wow, $$$ gotta be real nice to have. Post pics of the build. Anyways, I'd love to see somebody thrash one of those on a trail...haha
austynn2001 12-25-2004, 03:19 PM Bobbing the bed on THAT?! Good idea
edit: Oh, he loves body damage... nevermind.
tribal4krawler 12-26-2004, 01:25 AM whats wrong with bobbing the bed?
iostjeep 12-27-2004, 01:21 AM so what would you guys think about rockwells with hub brakes and lockers on this thing? right now we are thinking either 46s or 49s, with massive fender trimming and maybe a small body lift if needed. i think chromo equipped rockwells would be pretty sweet.. any thoughts/comments/ideas? we thought about just building up the dana 60s, but after thinking further about it, having to do the locking hubs conversion, lockers/gears/chromo, we figured we might as well go with rockwells. chris isnt crazy stupid with the throttle, but it is going to have the full banks kit on it so its gonna have some massive torque. its gonna be a fun project, thats for sure. Chris is really wanting this whole thing done by January 24th. WHEW. so i have about a month to work on this thing, as well as his YJ. its gonna be CRAAAAZY.
*DOH!!! forgot to sign out of my friend's account this is tribal4krawler
Ronin007 12-27-2004, 09:57 AM If he has the YJ for a crawler and tight trails then what does he want to do with the SD off road?? Mud romping, high speed desert running, what??
tribal4krawler 12-27-2004, 10:08 AM he wants to be able to switch back and forth, but the yj for hardcore rockcrawling full time, and the f250 driving on the street and rock crawling.. he is leaving the YJ here in texas and taking the f250 to his new house in washington. so whenever he comes down here to texas he'll take the yj out offroading. he's just got money to spend so he figures why not?
Ronin007 12-27-2004, 12:18 PM he's just got money to spend so he figures why not?
Must be nice. I'm trying to figure out where I am going to get the money for the lift on my SD now that the money that was set aside for it has to go into the house plumbing.
Seriously, I would say go with the rockwells. Look at what happened with 4-Wheel and Off Road's Ultimate SD. They were snapping axles left and right both when they were running it with the 46.7" XML's and the 39.5" Krawlers. I figure if he has money to spend he needs to build it tougher than what Peterson's did.
wes8517 12-27-2004, 12:32 PM this guy in az has run his crew cab shortbed super duty on 37 inch mt/rs on tons of trails in the az area. here is a pic on raw deal
http://www.superford.org/getfile/99967/fullsize/Doug_002%20(Custom).jpg
wes
tribal4krawler 12-27-2004, 12:54 PM well after talking with chris more, he really doesnt want to go with Rockwells because he's worried about the street driveability, and also the rockwell clearance, he doesnt want to hit anything under his ford with the rockwells, and he doesnt want to lift the truck way up there in order to not break anything so.. it looks like we might have to go with some super beefy Dana 60s. its gonna be pretty pricey and i bet he still breaks em.
wes8517 12-27-2004, 03:20 PM stick with the sterling rear, just truss it, its a super strong rear
then just use the dynatrac super duty 60/50 kit to make the front end stronger and truss it too, i bet it would hold up fine
wes
B.C. 05 12-27-2004, 03:54 PM U1300 mogs!
tribal4krawler 12-27-2004, 04:14 PM yeah i guess we're gonna just stick with what we got, and upgrade the front axle and put in arbs and 5.13 gears as was our original idea, and go with coilovers and a 4 link with panhard front and rear. i wont be doing the links though, i understand how it works but i am not comfortable trusting myself to do it on a rig that is going to be driven on the street, i wouldnt be able to forgive myself if something that i built failed and ended up killing my customer, and friend.
BUZZISCRAZY2 12-27-2004, 06:30 PM The problem with rock's is they are not up to highway speeds.
Kick ass project !!.............I wheel the shit out of my full size Fords, go boy go :smokin:
TeamLowCostOffRoad 12-28-2004, 10:35 AM http://www.spydercustoms.com/buggies/ua_top_water.jpg
:grinpimp:
tribal4krawler 12-28-2004, 10:39 AM that thing aint gonna be shiiiit compared to the superduty we're building. when we're done and got everything worked out, i'm gonna try to get ahold of the 4x4 mags and see if they wanna do an shoot out, our SD, the ultimate superduty, and the ultimate Avalanche, as well as whatever else is out there as far as 4 door full size trucks. :grinpimp:
BUZZISCRAZY2 12-28-2004, 11:32 AM  Here we go............another 1 talking out of his ass.........
tribal4krawler 12-28-2004, 02:35 PM well hey we'll see. the only question i have is how well are you at taking your foot out of your mouth. if you arent proficient i suggest you start practicing. :)
BUZZISCRAZY2 12-28-2004, 04:47 PM The only way a 60/sterling are gonna hold up to a 53" tire is if it never gets used........
That is the referance you remarked to isn't it?
And with the factory 50 no matter what you stick in it is still junk
NE-RokToy 12-28-2004, 05:01 PM for the price of the dyna-rape front conversion I would think you could step up to normal dna 60 knuckles from dedenbear or Crane
tribal4krawler 12-28-2004, 09:37 PM we're goin with 42s, not 53s, and its a front 60 not 50 thats gettin full chromos and CTM's.
BUZZISCRAZY2 12-28-2004, 11:44 PM OK 42'S I'LL buy..........you said that ain't shit, after the SD pic with 53's, i'm thinkin  yeah with 60's lol
Are you keeping the stock frame?
tribal4krawler 12-29-2004, 01:21 AM not sure yet. we'll figure something out once we get the bed out and take a look.. we'll have a subframe in the rear for the coilovers and link mounts for sure and possibly sleeve the frame if needed if we see any particularly weak spots. i figure it should be pretty stong, it does have a towing weight of what, 11,000 pounds? Another question i have is about the sterling rear, we havent been able to find any gears larger then 4.56, we're really wanting to go with 5.13s, anybody know if there's any vendors that sell 5.13 gears? basically about the superduty, i was just saying that instead of just throwing arbs and shit under it and putting 46s on it like was done with the ultimate superduty, we're going to go with a linked coilover front and rear setup with a bad ass dana 60 in the front and from what i hear the sterling should hold up well so we'll leave that as it is for now and it should flex pretty good, and hopefully we can keep the COG as low as we possibly can (think alot of fender trimming) and come out with a sweet rig that admittedly is not that functional as far as tight canyon trails go, but hey.. not that many people out there willing to bash a new superduty. just tryin' to do something different while still being functional. :grinpimp:
45acp 12-29-2004, 07:37 AM You can get 5:13's and 5:38's for the Sterling. Sorry, cant remember a specific vendor.
B.C. 05 12-29-2004, 07:52 AM after the SD pic with 53's,
What super duty with 53's? The one in the pic is running 46" Michelin XMLs.
BUZZISCRAZY2 12-29-2004, 11:08 AM Gottcha..........I had the same thoughts but decided to just go full tube frame, sometimes strenth is an issue and add on cradles can look funky.
Will he be using it for krawling or all around Fun ? :D Why coilovers ?
B C , 46's - 53's.....either are alot of rubber for a 60, specially when you put some horsies to it..... :smokin:
gtxracer 12-29-2004, 02:43 PM This thread is worthless without more pics :D
tribal4krawler 12-29-2004, 02:53 PM cuz my customer wants this thing to be all out sick.. leaf springs is the easy and lame way out for him. *shrugs* i mean, leaf springs on a 10 grand+ all chromoly 40spline custom dana 60?? why cut corners. we're in the process of getting everything all together and ordered. What do you want more pics of? we havent started on the ford yet, i want to get everything all exactly figured out before i touch the truck.
lentzOUTLAWZ4x4 12-29-2004, 06:00 PM we need pics cause i could talk about an ultimate buildup of my own but no one gives a fawk because i dont have any pics.
Skippie 12-29-2004, 06:11 PM cuz my customer wants this thing to be all out sick.
Has the guy given you an estimate of how much he wants to spend on this thing, or is it a "sky's the limit" kinda thing?
tribal4krawler 12-29-2004, 06:19 PM like i said, i will have pics up next week after we get all the stuff organized and ordered and we start tearing the truck apart to figure out how we're gonna fab the bumpers/skidplates/roll cage/subframe for rear coilovers. i guess we could take more pics of the truck as it is stock with the 37s and 8 inch lift, but *shrugs* is that what you wanted? we're waiting until after new years to get started on the project. so we'll have about 23-ish days to do this rig. i'm going to be working day and night 7 days a week on this thing until its done. if it doesnt get done by jan 24th, he'll understand, because i mean, it is a crazy thing to ask for but i'm gonna try like hell to do it.
there IS a limit on how much he's going to spend, i honestly dont know how much but i know that so far he is cool with the budget and its somewhere around 20,000 in mods total so far.
Skippie 12-29-2004, 06:53 PM we start tearing the truck apart to figure out how we're gonna fab the bumpers/skidplates/roll cage/subframe
Are you planning on keeping the rear seat functional, or fawking it up like the Ultimate SD?
tribal4krawler 12-29-2004, 07:05 PM no way.. we're keeping the rear seat. right now we're kind of toying with the idea of having an Exo cage, it'd be easier but harder to make it look sick.. i'm kind of toying with the idea of having an inner/exo, basically having a full inside cage, and drill holes through the roof and connect that to the exo, make it super strong, and put like rubber bushings or seals to keep the rain and stuff out. BUT, the problem is that its gonna look like a damn jungle gym or something, and i hate that. we'll figure it out
*shrugs* why, got any ideas? keeping the back seat functional and very useable is one of my customer's very important requests.
BUZZISCRAZY2 12-29-2004, 09:11 PM cuz my customer wants this thing to be all out sick.. leaf springs is the easy and lame way out for him. *shrugs* i mean, leaf springs on a 10 grand+ all chromoly 40spline custom dana 60?? why cut corners. we're in the process of getting everything all together and ordered. There are alternates to coils or leafs.......... :smokin:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v26/buzziscrazy2/05e2ee6c.jpg
tribal4krawler 12-29-2004, 09:21 PM lol definitely not goin with that.. this is gonna be a rock crawler.. that contraption under there would get all bashed up.
Skippie 12-29-2004, 10:16 PM no way.. we're keeping the rear seat.
That's what I was hoping. It would be pointless to build such a big ass rig without utilizing any of the available space. They really must not have thought that through with the Ultimate SD....
http://4wheeloffroad.com/brandpages/ford/131_0211_build13_z.jpg
tribal4krawler 12-29-2004, 11:24 PM thats EXACTLY what i thought when i first read about the ultimate SD, i was like, damn thats sick, you can take a couple friends in style, then i took a look at the inside and was like............. ooook. lol.
BTW, the interior is gonna be PIMP, think DVD players and tv screens and video games. ha ha ha. its gonna be crazy.
1979Furdkrawler 01-06-2005, 09:28 PM ... are you gonna post pics of this truck or what?
wes8517 01-14-2005, 06:12 PM so im guessing this just didnt turn out?
wes
fordlover 01-14-2005, 06:28 PM you can get 5:13 i just got a set for mine, just call up randy ring and pinion and get there youkon gear sets, and as far as a body lift on a diesel good luck you would have to make all sorts of new tubes for the intercooler and all that stuff, all in all sounds like it will be bad ass when its done man it must be nice to have that kinda of money good luck on the build up and keep the pics comming
JoeBlow 01-15-2005, 04:39 PM Complete Offroad has Yukon (Randy's R&P) For a good price.

RedNeckRea 01-27-2005, 09:44 PM so whats the word on this project
Skippie 01-29-2005, 10:34 AM so whats the word on this project
I was really looking forward to seeing this project come together.
DRKelly 01-29-2005, 02:58 PM Guy probably backed out after realizing the cash outlay. That is a lot of money to put into an expensive truck to start with.
wes8517 01-29-2005, 10:22 PM im beginning to think this thing was all talk and no action in the beginning, otherwise we woulda seen progress by now
wes
im beginning to think this thing was all talk and no action in the beginning, otherwise we woulda seen progress by now

crawldaddy 08-09-2005, 04:35 PM This is why you don't post stuff like "my new rock buggy " or thomething or another build up" and things like that cuz tell you have the $$$$$,parts, metal, and $$$$$ in hand it's just an idea :flipoff2:
Infernal Jeep 08-12-2005, 01:42 AM This is why you don't post stuff like "my new rock buggy " or thomething or another build up" and things like that cuz tell you have the $$$$$,parts, metal, and $$$$$ in hand it's just an idea :flipoff2:
