Today for Chtistmas I was surprised to get a Lock Right locker for my 86 F-250's 10.25" rear. The axle code on the door is 35, which I investigated and came up with the following info : 6250# rated, 4.10 geared 10.25" with an open carrier. Can anyone verify this? I also have my VIN if needed. Now, It came with instructions that say if you have a C-Clip axle you need to do this and if you don't have a C-Clip axle, you need to do something else. I don't know if mine is a C-Clip or not. Does anyone know, or can they tell me how to find out? Thanks. I'm sure I will have many more interesting questions once I begin the install. :smokin:

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

when you pull the diff cover see if are any c-clips holding the axle shafts in.

if it is a regular 3/4ton axel then you would see the outter flange at the end of the axel (in the center of the 8 lugs) and this tells you it is a full floater and it would not have C clips.

If it has "big hubs with 8 bolts" sticking out of the center of the rear wheel, it would be a full floater. If it is flat and nothing sticks out of the center of the rear wheels, it is a semi-floater.

Regarding the axle code: Since you have two numbers as in "35" you have an open rear end, unless someone changed it....which I doubt. Ford used one letter and one number for the Limited Slip diffs in their trucks. IE: "C5"

What model number lockright do you have?

I used to have an '86 F-250 4x4. It had the 10.25" semi-floating rear end.

Thanks for all the info guys! It does have some BIG hubs and 8 lugs in the back. The model number of the Lock Right is 1840-LR i believe.

So the full floating rear (with the big hubs) doesn't have c-clips if I read correctly?

Thanks for all the info guys! It does have some BIG hubs and 8 lugs (Right, they are all 8 lug wheels, but I meant the hubs themselves will have 8 bolts.....you should be able to see the 8 bolt heads exposed..........these bolt your full floating axles into the hubs) in the back. The model number of the Lock Right is 1840-LR i believe.

Even if you are relatively new to working on rear ends, the installation of the
LockRight will be easy. If you have any other questions, you'll find answers on this board.

Oh to the quote.

Yes, I am VERY new to working on rear ends (this will be my first). I am glad to hear that it will be easy. Thanks a ton.

It does have the 8 bolts on the hub that stick out too by the way.

Another question: are all 10.25's 35 spline?

I haven't heard of a 10.25" having any other spline count.
