i got enough money for christmas to get one of these two welders but don't know wich one to get. i've used the lincon and i like it but the harbor freight one look nice because you have more control over the welding amps.

i know that these are bottom of the line welders but i'm a 19 year old guy going to the local JC and am working out of my dads garage so these should be fine for awhile. thanks for the input

save a few more $$'s and get the lincoln ac/dc stick welder. dc rules for what we do.

You really can't beat the lincoln 225 for simplicity, ease of use, and long life. I think it's lincolns best selling welder too, I know that pretty much every farm shop or shop of any sort that I've been to has had one sitting in the corner somewhere. If I were going to spend the money on one I'd most definately find a used one.

Nice, but I just got a Factory Reman Hobart Handler 175 for $10 dollars more, 40 more amps for 10 bucks. Then I used it to make a welding cart outta a shopping cart. :flipoff2:

I'm no welding expert (yet, I'm taking classes next semester) but I'd get the lincoln. I have the AC 225 myself and really like it. Sure, it was hard to learn to weld and stuff, but it only makes you a better welder. My buddy has a 110 lincoln mig that he paid like 500 for, and I paid 125 for my stick... I'd take the stick welder for building trucks any day over the lincoln 110. Just can't get enough power with the 110 welder. Go Lincoln 225 AC stick!

EDIT: guess I should have read the first post, rather than babling on about nothing :shaking: . I'd go with the lincoln. Like people said, they're simple, last forever (mine is fawkin old) and it's a good, name brand.

How much do these welders cost? I have a used (old) AC stick welder that I will sell you cheap. I'm about 20 minutes from you. PM me if you're interested.

I got my Miller 225 for $50, it seems to be from the late early 80s. Works awesome, just my skills that are lacking. YOu can find deals like that all the time, $150 shoulds get you a good AC stick without too much looking around. Less if you work at it.
