: Update on 37" MT/R's?

Does anyone know if there are plans to sell the 37x12.5 Goodyear MT/R's to the public at a mass production price, or are these things to remain a limited-production tire for some ARCA competitors? Just curious, I've seen several advertisements on 4x4 rags that claim the size is "coming soon", but it's been over a year. If there *is* a plan, do you know of a tentative schedule for this?

With so many people claiming problems with the 37x12.5 SSR's, I've been pondering tires again. The PJ Dirt Grips sound very appealing, but they are very expensive.

Just curious, thanks in advance!

oh they are selling them now, 4 wheel parts wholesalers has them for sale for $487 each. but they are a 17" rim not a 15" rim.

Do you know if there are plans to make them in 15" or 16" rims, and sell them for reasonable prices, or is this a pipe dream? I'm guessing the $487 price tag is because they're made in such small quantities...

They make them in a 15" rim BUT you have to ben in ARCA inorder to get them and i think they are about the same price for either. or contact the 4 wheel off-road rag and ask them where they got there 37s and how much they paid, because in the artical where they broke the price list down they left the rims and tires out of it.

Yep, pipe dream. don't think the price is coming down...would you lower your price if people were paying it? I agree 400+ is rape for a tire. Even ARCA competitors who were selling used 37 R15s were getting first born children for used tires!

Henry,

38 x 12.50 SX's are really 37" tall and they are an affordable tire. That price tag is utterly rediculous.

The ARCA guys pay a decending price on the tires based on where they place in the competition.

Talk to some of the guys who still run Swampers and get them to buy you a set at their price next year.

I think that anything above 35s besides Swampers is going to be expensive Henry. The Baja Claws are out now in 37s for 15, 16, and 17" rims but they cost $250 a piece. Same with the new BFG Muds, but they are only available for a 17" rim. 36" Dirt Grips run about $20 each. Tirerack had 37x12.5R17s MT/Rs listed for $343 a piece.

ProComp is supposed to be coming out with the X-Terrains in 37x12.5R16, we'll see how those are priced. :rasta:

The only cost effective option is getting some Hummer take-offs from USA6x6.com. You could get some of those, 16.5 steel wheels, and Tirelocs for the price of 37" MT/Rs.

At our last event, Mickey Thompson were giving all the competitors a great deal on the 37's baja claw competition tire.....
a mire $269.00 ea and you had better have your 17" rims......
a package deal on rims and tires $2300.00 what a deal, so good fact that they sold a $#!t load of noth'n......good luck MC
and they were pissed because no one bought tires.....yeah...get a life or at least a lite grasp on reality.....

I realize that any tire in 37" is going to be expensive, but there is a difference between $250 expensive and $450 expensive...And Nolen, while I have considered Swamper SX's, I need a tire that will stand up well to *long* drives to get to the trails and light daily driving, I don't think SX's are going to last long under those conditions.

I think the argument of whether you would sell them for $300 if they're selling for $450 is valid only to a certain extent, *sales volume* is a factor not considered in it. At $450 each, it's really a luxury item, whereas at, say, $260, they would probably sell a boatload of them, not only to people like me, but to all the poseurs out there with their :rainbow: show trucks...

I'm going to have to see if I can scrounge up a set of used ones, I only have a couple of friends who compete in ARCA, and I bet these guys have a list of people wanting tires!

I've only seen ONE instance (an NMRO mud drag) where tires were SOLD to competitors AT the event in which they were used. And that was when Boggers were brand new. I think ONE guy bought a set of 35's (they only came in 35" & 44" at the time) and two others had two 44's each - one pair cut, the others not - but they got those before the event.

At any rate, not too many guys were willing to plunk down cash for untested tires (even as good as the Boggers looked) & then test them in competition when money was on the line.

Tires are usually sold (at a discount) at EVERY rock crawling event. ;)

Hell, I KNEW what you were planning to say even before I read this. I left out the "at normal prices" in my statement - D'OHH! Thanks for the clarification.

Thank you for contacting our web site and for thinking of Wrangler MT/R

at
a more reasonable price in early 2002.

Of course that doesn't mean a whole helluvalot.

Just thought people would want to know.

I've heard the 37" MTR's are a different tread compound, designed for off-road and wouldn't last very long on a rig that sees alot of street time. Is this true or is it a myth?

Found this thread doing a search. I was thinking of putting some 37s on my rig. Started by calling a local Goodyear dealer. No kidding, here's what he said, "This is a special order tire. The catalog shows them at $846 per tire, but I can sell them to you for $717 per tire." He didn't laugh, but I did.

I guess I'll stick with 35s for a while longer. Too bad BFG won't make their 37s to fit a 15" rim. What are they thinking?

I too contacted (complained) to Goodyear at the above email. I plan to continue every month, and would urge others to do so as well.

They should be available by the end of the second quarter and the cost
should be somewhat reduced.

Anyone seen 37s for 16 inch wheels at the events?

Local Big O just sold me 37 MT/R's at $380. Still very expensive, but its $200 cheaper than yesterday. The man says they were not selling at that price.

Are the 37" MTR's the same compound as the other sizes? If so would it be fair to say that they would last twice as long as the ~$200 boggers?

I called 4-Wheel parts yesterday, the guy said the price he had
was $650 a tire, I laughed and he did to. He said that must be some mistake! The other problem was he said there were none in his system (all the stores).:flipoff2:
Thats just crazy!

tire rack.com or whatever has 37X12.50X17 good year GSA's in stock under $370 what a deal! I think it is an even more all terain tread pattern than the mtrs, but I didn't even know they were making those.

the GSAs are the tires that used to, maybe still do, come stock on hummers. They're basically a street tire.
