Im having a conversation with a buddy about beefing up his Cruiser and we came to the t-case. Many moons ago, I droped a 327 in my 60 and left the stock trans & case. Well several months down the road, the case cracked all the way around and I have talked to several people who tell a similar story.

Here is the question.
Is this common issue with the stock t-case?

I think it's gonna have alot to do with what type of rear t-case crossmember you use, but those split caes are prety tuff and can take the torqe and horse power of a v-8. I could see if you were talking about the older transfercases being weak, because they are junk. But the split cases are good units.

Ramstein-

How many miles on t-case?

Did you rebuild it, or simply install it?

Cracks "all the way around"? Photos of such?

I have only heard of one case failure in a 10/85+ 38mm idler case (and that still had no photos to go with). Hell, the mines in Canada don't crack them (they destroy gears....).

There is no issue with split cases. 34mm made 8/80-10/85, then 38mm made 10/85-8/99-Toyota never saw an issue with them for a long time.

Sorry Rick, no picks. This goes back almost 20 years and I couldnt begin to tell you what t-case I had in it only that back then, I had to go through Manfree for a new one and it came from Australia. But from what im hearing from you guys, my bro will be fine with his stock t-case if he drops in a 350. Cool deal.

Thanks for the input.
