Here the specs on my XJ. 4:56's, tera 4 to1 low. AW4 auto.. This has just recently started happening after the addition of the teralow. It seems that I am stalling out because of lack of RPMS. It is only happening when climbing big challenging obstacles. Any suggestion on how I can remedy this situation. It gettting to be a pretty common and scary occuerence.

The rig runs like a top and all maintence is up to date. I am too low RPM wise.. Thanks RobK

What motor is it??? If it carbed then thats your problem I would guess...but if its not carbed then I don't know:confused:

the fuel pickup might be getting dry at odd angles. Try running with more gas in the tank and see if it happens.

Well unless hes going up the obstacles in reverse then the pickup shouldn't be getting dry(unless hes REALLY low)...but you never know till you try:D

but he said it just started after he installed the tera low so unless he is getting more agressive then fuel wouldn't be the problem would it

Fuel is almost always full so thats not the problem.. Im wondering if it is maybe cps or tps related. thanks.

Are you seeing black smoke from the exhaust when this happens?

on my old wagoneer XJ, it used to do stall out at certain angles when the cps was bad...the rpms would drop and it would cough and choke out.
my other suggestion would be fuel filter. my 96 would sputter and sometimes stall at steep angles wehn the fuel filter was crapped.

are you stalling like your engine shuts down? or you're stalling for lack of power, not making forward momentum, but the engine's still going?

If it's the latter, your auto tranny might be starving.....not uncommon on the steeps, get yerself a deep sump tranny oil pan.

if your engine is FI, your tank's full and it's shuttin down, then I'm out of ideas.

Cheers.

Yeh the engine just sputters and shuts down. I am gonna replace the cps and check the dist cap. I might just launch some 5000 rpm assaults and give up crawling. thanks for all the suggestions

on my XJ I had a problem where it would stall in reverse, ran fine in forward but reverse was getting progressively worse. I looked at it and thought for about 10 minutes and figured it out. Yep just what I thought the CPS wires were burned through and grounding on the manifold. It was something stupid and simple, just another idea. instead of just replacing it look at everything inbetween the sensor and the CPU
