I've seen pics all over the place, and spec sheets up the ying yang............but I can't seem to find a write up on what needs to be done to install one.

I am going to be running a Turbo 350, 203 and 205 setup.

What mods need to be done to the 203? Any mods to the 205?

Does anyone have a measurement from the bellhousing on a turbo 350 to the end of this mess?? :D:D:D

Come awn!! THANKS!!

Chris

I don't have the answers but, have you looked at the ORD website? There's a ton of specific and usefull info there. Give them a call - they are very helpfull.

Pass a  over here cause I don't fully understand it either. I'm gonna order mine when I get back from vacation. I should have it by the middle of april. I plan on doing a full writeup with pics and submitting it to Lance for the tech board. :D Want to wait? When are you getting yours?

I am using a 700R4, chevy 203 and a Ford 205.

I am building up a doubler behind my th-350 right now. Its is from Wagoner Machine Shop though. If you have a np-205 that was behind a th-350 or a sm465 then you will probably need to get an input shaft from a ford or one from an np-205 that was behind a th-400. Im using the one from a ford. I dont Know what tranny it came out of but I bet it was from a C6. When you swap to this style input you have to bore the np-205's case to accept the bigger bearing. This is a pretty easy job and any machine shop should be able to do it in about an hour.

So far that is all the modifications that I have run into. If you had an np-205 that already had the female input (one that was behind a th-400) you wouldnt have to do any thing but bolt it together.

The way I understand it is ORD modifies the shaft coming out of the 203 that would originally drive the chain assy. I believe the only mods to the 203 are dropping the back half of the case and changing the output shaft. It is a 32 spline output. So, your 205 will have to be from a TH400 with the 32 spline input, or you can machine and change your input gear. You will not need the tranny to 205 adaptor anymore. Not sure of the dim. I belive it said on their site that the rear ouput would be in the same location as the 203. Hopoefully I will be joining the ranks with the doubler soon. See what happens.

How does the $ of the Waggoner kit compare to the ORD kit? Of course their twin 203 to 205 kit looks cool, too.

The price is the same. The reason that I went with the WMS kit is because they are MUCH more willing to work with you.

I called ORD to see it they would sell me just the shaft, their response was a sarcastic yes, but it would cost me 750 bucks!

I then called WMS, and they said, sure they would sell me just the shaft. They would even make me one to my own specs! Very helpfull shop. Truly interested in the customers needs. I ended up getting the whole kit from them anyway.

Well if I order it, it will be in the next 2 weeks. I picked up a truck to pull the drivetrain out of and it currently has 350/350/203. I figure since I have to get another t-case anyway...I might as well get the 205 from a 400 and just run the doubler. :D:D:D Should be pretty cool. :D:D:D

Check out BC4x4.com. This site has a write up on making your own 203 205 doubler. You can get a good idea of whats involved from this write up. This doubler from what I understand is similar to ORD's Gen I doubler. ORD just modified there site with some new info.
Taking apart the 203 is very easy. Once you have the gearbox output shaft out you can send it to Moser and they will cut and spline the shaft to whatever you want for $85. ORD and I assume WMS doublers are similar in that they use the 32 spline input gear. (not sure haven't seen either one in person) The adapter between the 203 and 205 is basically the same length as the TH400 short input shaft 205 adapter. The shaft should stick out about 7/8" past the adapter. Making it this way allows you to ovoid the use of a coupler like the TH350 and SM465 205 set ups. Machine work and R&D are what makes these units expensive. Material and work wise once you have the setup , costs are not that much.
I've called both ORD and WMS and both have been very helpful and informative. WMS is willing do do any set-up or configuration that you desire.
I'm working on making my own doubler with the help of a friend.
Hope this helps.

Good writeup. If I wasn't so busy/Lazy I would make my own. Sounds easy enough. :D

Someone mentioned the weight of the doubler set up. I guess a 205 is kind of heavy. But, you're only adding half of the 203 and then a metal plate. Anyone know what kind of weights we're looking at?

you only use about 85 lbs of the 203 and WMS's adapter plate is 25 lbs. Im not sure what the 205 weighs though. I post it all on www.alaskaoffroad.com when i get it all done. I will post the weight of the individual pieces, the overall length and a sketch of the shifter setup I run for dual tcases and twinstick 205.

just for info, i had Moser Engineering cut and spline a 203 shaft for me, cost me $100, i've been running it for over a year now, (few thousand miles)
here's a link to my page http://www.geocities.com/yj3qtr_ton/2transfercase.html

Ya know Stephen Watson (Mr. ORD) does stop here from time to time. Guess he missed this post. He does moderate a Forum on www.coloradok5.com Might look and see if all your questions have been answered all ready. He's also a hell of a nice guy...call ORD...9 out of 10 times he answers the phone himself.
My understanding is for a K5 (what I drive) is either a 1 inch body lift to clear the floor, Make a custom mount for it. If you had a 203 the rear shaft will bolt right up. Front shaft will need to be lengthend.
As for the case. If you have a TH400 205 it's all bolt on once you deal with the output shaft on the 203 range box. Like was posted above you can modify a course spline 205 case to work by machining for the input bearing.
Stephen happens to run a RCD60 Ford front axle and a Ford 205 in the big green K5 so it sounds like what your wanting to run.

hey just a little correction not that it really matters. Yes stephen does run a ford 205 but his front axle is actually a teraflex diff(high clearance) on the ford side(driver) with stock chevy inner axles and 35 spline stubs. and yes stephen is a nice guy and will answer anyquestions you might have!
