my brother has a 96 bronco with a 6 inch superlift kit 3 inch body lift and 39.5x15.50 baja belted shitters. he also has the superlift steering kit. the problem is he has just recently got death wobble and we can't figure out the source of the problem. the passenger side front tire feels like it hops down the road and then starts going crazy after hitting 45 mph. we can't figure out if the problem is in the steering or the suspension. he also just took it to get an alignment to see if that could correct the probvlem but that didnt help. any help would be great. thanks.

check and see if the tie rods are good and the balljoints and check the pan hard bar to see if the bushings anre worn and check the ballance of the tire.

if that dosn't work use the SEARCH button

swap the tires around, could be a tire issue

Check the pivot bushings.

Oh yeah, rebalance the tire.

Look for missing wheel weights.

because I am sure you have paid enough attention to notice if they were missing. :)

Check to see if your pivot brackets are bent, or if the frame is tweaked or cracked where they bolt up. Might cause a bad castor angle.

Then swap in a solid axle.

Sure sounds like a tire issue to me also. A solid axle won't fix that

Big biasply tires like that seldom balance well (especially if they did not do a dynamic balance on them (Uses weight on BOTH sides of the wheel)).

sounds like tire but also check all the bushings in the suspension - sounds like could be radius arm or pivot bushings wallered out - has happenned more than once.

is there any chance he has hub locked in and an unbalanced or bent front driveshaft is spinning? does his still have the stock auto hubs? ive done this before thinking i was destroying my truck. also a cracked t-case adapter making the input shaft cock at an angle - that happened to me too. shook the shit out of the front end.

I had the death wobble on a '67 CJ5 back 25 yrs ago when 35's were big tires. I had done the single tie rod conversion.

What was happening was there was some (rotational) slack in the tie rod ends. The drag link attached to the tie rod at an angle. Due to the lift, when you hit uneven bumps, the tie rod began to rotate one way, which caused the vehicle to go one way. Then it would rotate as far as it could and take up all of the slack, then start the other direction.

The drag link at a steep angle was what was causing it to be able to do this. The problem was solved merely by cutting the drag link and welding a piece of flat 1/2" steel to make a "Z" sort of look.

This allows the steering to push and pull the tie rod parallel to the axle instead of pushing and pulling up and down.

Now days I would use a drop pitman arm, offset drag link, crossover.
