OK...got a digi-cam for x-mas so now you guys can check out my broken stuff. I was wheeling and heard an impressive crunch. Suspicious dent in my diff cover (sorry, no pic of that). Looks like this inside.

It's a dana 44 housing, but I don't know what locker this is. The ring and pinion seems to be ok, but the inner gears of this thing are crunched. Repairable? Dana 60 time if I want to keep running 35's? If anybody needs bigger pics with more detail let me know and I will post or email them to you.

Thanks...

That's a Powr-Lock and in my opinion, they are overrated. I did the exact same thing to mine. The bolts stretch and break, and voila, time for an axle overhaul. Take the carrier out and split the halves, Remember they are reverse thread. The carrier is likely broken in more than one place near the bolt holes. There is not much material around them. The spider gears are easily replaced if the carrier is okay.

That's a powr-lok. Somehow I broke the spiders in mine driving around on 35s, then they wedged in the gears and it acted like a spool. You could probably get new spider gears from Reider Racing. Going to a d60 means a loss of ground clearance, so it's your call.

You could probably get new spider gears from Reider Racing.

Reider--Powr-Lock internal kit includes 2 side gears, 4 spiders, and 2 cross-shafts, $210 quoted 12/27/04.

Randy's R&P---internal kit $203-----internal kit w/clutches $251.41 but out-of-stock, quoted 12/27/04.

Fastest way to get back on the road is to buy a new carrier.

Might be cheaper to try an open carrier and Lockright instead of replacing the PowerLok, or spend a few dollars more for the Detroit.

No matter what, you'll need to re setup the gears.

I tried to buy a new Powr-Lock a few months ago and was told they don't make them anymore for Dana 44, all Dana makes now is an upgraded Trac-Lock. The open carrier with a Lockrite would also be my suggestion if on a budget.
