I am new to the Ford section but I have learned that the participants in all vehichle groups are very willing to help. My bro-in-law has a problem with his 99 Expedition. He said that if he is below 1/2 a tank on his truck then he has a hard time starting it. If he does get it started then it runs rough and will die. If the truck has been running a while then it runs okay. They don't experience in the top half of the tank. Does anyone have any ideas? I would appreciate all the help I can get!

It may be the fuel pump. We've seen this problem on plenty of Focus's and Cougars, but never on an Expedition. Thay also were not effected by how long they ran, only by fuel level. Another possibilty is the Idle Air Control Valve. Over time they get alot of carbon buildup and stick when cold, but they're not affected by fuel level..... The best thing to do is to try putting a fuel pressure guage on when the problem occurs and look for pressure drops..

Hope this helps!
