I aquired this thing along with my a vintage lathe I got over the holidays. I can't figure out what it is, there is no markings on it that i can see/find.

The one end has a small star like cutter wheel and the lever on the other side moves it from side to side. There also looks like a cutter but but its on a manual adjusment arm. Was just cusious mainly, any help appreciated. -mike

nice classic ya got there. could it be a jeweler's lathe? i'm certainly not an expert but we had something similar to it in a shop class i had a few years ago, and teach said it was a jeweler's lathe for grinding and poliishing small objects.

good luck with an id.

Looks like an armature lathe for automotive applications. Probably used for both starters and alternators (generators in those days.) It trues the commutator where the brushes ride so they make better contact.

This one is pretty close to yours:

My (best) guess is a tool used for rewinding alternators and electric motors!?
