i have a 88 s15 automatic with 4 wheel drive

the last couple months i have noticed a faint smell of tranny fluid after driving a while.
i look underneath and didnt see any leak, also
i have noticed when it was real cold the
transmission would have to rev higher before it would shift , but once warmed up , it would shift great.

yesturday i smelled the tranny fluid worse after
driving it , didnt see anything on the ground ,
checked the dipstick and it was reading overfilled. w.t.f. then i drove home about 30 miles and shut it off . got down on the ground
and crawl underneath and there was fluid all over the place. it is leaking up on top of the tranny
around where the tranny\adapterplate\t-case , bolt
together. there is only vaccuum hose on top that
operates the 4wd, and a hose for venting. the floorboard is about 31/2" above the tranny but
there is fluid all above that area on the floorboard. this is a 700r4 tranny.

it was rebuilt about 55,000 miles ago , the fluid is dark red and has bubbles in it somestimes when i checked .

do the gaskets need to be replaced between the
tranny and adapter plate and the t-case ? or is
there something wrong internally ?

Sounds like you got a "Air pocket" inside the case. Is it coming out of the dipstick tube too? It will "bubble out" of the vent with a air pocket is inside. I took a air compressor and blew the vent tube with it.....(put rag over fill stick tube it will blow out)......run it for 5 min. check fluid level.....Worked fine since then..... :D

Sounds as if your tranny is overserviced. Drain it to the proper level, and road test. You also might want to change the oil and filter in your tranny while your draining the excess oil, since your gonna make a mess anyways...... :skull:
