Can you post your pictures of the full size Jeeps? Can you please post your backspacing amount as well.

Trying to decide between running fullsize (Dana 60 rear and dana 44 from Ford front) or cutting down my axles in my YJ.

Here is the link to some pics. The white YJ and and the blue YJ both have full width 44 and 9" axles with 3 5/8" backspacing. The other White YJ pics are of my newest mods. Full width chevy 60 front and Ford 70 rear. I will be running 3.5" backspacing with these axles.

I've got a pic I took last night of my YJ on full width 60s with 15x8 4 inch backspacing wheels, but I can't post the pic here (too cheap to buy a red star). I can e-mail the pic to someone if they can post it for me.

I sent 'em to mo. Just garage pics, cuz I haven't gotten my driveshafts yet, but you should be able to see what full width axles with 15x8x4 wheels look like on a YJ.

The white Yj is mine. I run the MORE shackle reversal with buggy leaf. Stock waggy 7 leaf springs up front. rear is Rancho 44044 2.5" waggy springs with extended rear shackles and a 2" BL. The photos of the setup is having the 44044 springs up front and 56" Comanche springs in the rear.

the blue YJ is Goose on this board. He runs 3" YJ springs of an unknown brand. They have red bushings but DO NOT look like rancho springs. They have 6 leaf packs and thin spring clamps. He has extended shackles and a 2" BL also

can someone give specs and measurements (outside of tire to outside of tire...

i figure mine will be 88" wide

71" axle wms-wms
10" wheel 4"bs = 6"x2 = 12
15" wide tire -10" wheel =5 devided by 2 and multiplied by 2 is still 5

so 71+12+5=88"

before everyone asks 71" wide front D60 is out of a 98 Dodge 1 ton, Rear is 67" with 2" spacers

Great pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks sooooo mcuh for posting them! :D

Keith- I'm doing the same front swap as you ( RC Dana 44 from a 79 Ford. Running a dana 60-2 in the rear). What did you have to do to get it to fit? I know the perches are in the correct spot already, but they are .50" wider than stock. Did you cut it down or just use a bigger 3" u-bolt plate to match the spring perch? Did you upgrade the axle shafts or are they stock?

How did you set up the high steering? Any close-up pix of the front end?

How wide are the axles you are running? Can you give wms to wms and then the total distance from the outside of your tire to the other side? They were awesome trail shots!

Rockslut- did the MORE SR make a difference for you? I heard it nets another 1" of lift? Did the 3.5" backspacing rub any steering components?

Thanks for getting the pix up MO.

Ghettorig- What do the axles measure wms to wms? ~ 66?? Looks great; can't wait to see trail shots.

I really want to stay full width now! Looks like the rear willl have to be cut down a little b/c the pinion is too offset. Would like to keep front stock length though..

What is a garage?

79 Ford Bronco axles (9 Inch and RC Dana 44) with 3 5/8 backspaced rims. Width with the wheels and tires on is about 84 inches.

Insayn- I see how you got your name. Jeep looks great! Was the front an easy swap? What did you do for steering?

Insayn

The front was a little pain in the a$$. Instead of retubing it I let the cast radius arm mounts on and tig welded perches onto cast portion. I welded a larger 3/8 plate onto the perch. 4 grade 8 bolts sandwich another 3/8 plate onto the perch plate to hold the springs on. Not the best method, but works great.
Steering was easy. I used Chevy knuckles, spindles, brakes and caliper brackets. Ford hub/rotors and lockouts help maintain the 5x5.5 pattern. The passenger side has a high steer arm mounted to a machined, drilled and tapped knuckle. Pitman arm was machined out to accomodate Chevy tie rod ends and Rockstomper tie rod and drag link. See..simple!

Any problems with the tie rod below the springs?

Was the pitman arm from a YJ or chevy? Looks like I will have to machine the pitman arm as well. I have the whole Chevy tie rod assembly. Could I use that or do I have to go aftermarket?

Any steering stabilizer? (I ask b/c my jeep is also my everyday driver...)

Thanks for the help!

Great looking jeep, you said you left the cast on "ears" on your axle? has that caused you any problems or regrets. I got that same axle sitting in my garage in pieces right now, trying to decided wether to try and use it, or try and find a new one. I'd rather not go digging around yards again, if what I have will work, but I don't want to waste a bunch of time trying to make something work, that just won't. Let me know how it worked for you, thanks

The MORE kit move my axle forward about an inch and lifted everything about an inch. I like the kit.

As for the back spacing. On a 44 front with a high steer arm I have seen 5" backspacing that would fit.

I run a waggy/J truck drop pitman arm.
I also run my tie rod under the springs with no problems at all.

Insayn
02-12-2002, 09:23 AM
I run a stock YJ pitman arm that was machined out.
I don't have a stabilizer, but wouldn't mind getting one. I am opting for a hydraulic assist ram so until i figure out what I am going to do I will wait.
The Rockstomper tie rod is beefy as hell, so I have had no problems or regrets about leaving it below the springs. I have a driver side high steer arm machined out, just not sure I will put it on (spring contact issue).
The perches were a pain to grind down. No problems yet and I beat the crap out of the front end. NO cracked welds or spring shift. Works good for me.

The front axle is from 90-94 Ford one ton and is 69-70 inches WMS to WMS, and measures 83 inches form the outside edges of the tires. It fits very snugly on the trailer.
The rear axle is about 67 inches WMS to WMS and about 80 inches wide to the outsides of the tires. There is an inch and a half difference on each side, but it's really hard to tell with the front fenders all cut off. I wanted to stay as narrow as possible without cutting the axles down.

Your math is correct... the actual product will vary slightly as wheels and tires aren't always the advertised width. But around 88" is where you'll be.

Here's a webform that calculates it for you:

:flipoff2: I'm still considering painting them black, but everyone has black wheels now, and the white is kinda starting to grow on me... For UROC at least, they will probably be white.

On my axles the WMS to WMS is 65 inches if I remember right. I am still running 36x12.5 SX's on 15x10 wheels with 3 5/8 backspacing. The jeep fits perfectly inbetween the wheel wells of the trailer when aired down. I have never had any problems with the width, other than getting the frontend between the trees and not getting the rear to follow. I couldn't even back out the way I came in. Weird...
I do plan on going 38.5x14.5 soon once I get a little more gear reduction.
murdeR...I do have to work tomorrow so I can't get together with you all...as much as I would like to. Sorry...I'll take a raincheck.

Like I say, Tires and Wheels aren't always what the manuf says they are.

I have a set of 10" Beadlock Rims that are actually almost 11.5" wide. They were supposed to be 3.5" backspaced but are closer to 4" backspaced. I had a friend buy 10" rims w/ 3.5" back space and when we measured they were closer to 3" BS and almost 11" wide. Maybe we just buy crappy rims :D

Interco says the 36x12.50 TSL/SX is 13.3" wide.

Just to see, I plugged in the #'s 65" Axle, 13.5" tire, 11" Rim, 3.5" BS and got 82.5"

Oh, one more thing: Camber. Most people measure WMS to WMS at the hub, and then measure the tire width by using a square against the tire and then measuring on the ground. Camber will increase this measurement as will tire flex.

HTH,
- Mike
