I am not sure about how to title this so I will explain now.
My buudy just got his ranger lifted ( i think 4in ) and his drive shaft that was stock will not work cause of some sort of binding or rubbing. I think it is a trailmaster lift. the guy took it to a driveshaft place in town and they said they couldnt do anything for him.
trailmaster sells a shaft that he says is 900 bucks but will fix the problem and they say it still will make noise at highway speeds. its not my rig so I dont get the whole thing.
Why would this shaft be so much and why cant the local shop hook him up with a good shaft, to me it doesnt seem that difficult. It doesnt seem to be that big of a deal to get a new front shaft so does anyone know what the deal is????????
thanks in advance!!!

hhave you done a search? at least look at the top of this page. call jessie at high angle he can do something for you not sure on the cost (depends on parts and time but i think it is less than the price you have now. i just got my new rear shaft from him----great work.

I understand that I could get what I needed but I was looking for someone who might know why this would be the case. I would have just done a SAS and got rid of the IFS crap. If anyone knows about this stupid driveshaft problem please chime in.
and yes I could search the ranger station but I use this board, and I am sure someone here knows.

Why would you not want to check a site specific to a Ranger for a Ranger problem?
The answer is probably something having to do with that whacky front CV joint they use at the T-case end of the shaft. That is what fails when run at the higher angle a liftkit puts it at (and I don't think it has enough range of movement for a straightaxle suspension either).
I have heard of a kit to change out that CV thing (or you could just swap to the '90-'97 1354 T-case. The '98+ cases seem to have a lot of chain slipping issues I've noticed).

im not sure what the problem is either but i know that a buddy lifted his ranger and had issues with the driveshaft bumping the gas tank when flexing the rear at all. as far as the CV style driveshaft - swap it with a rear DC style from a FSB and have it lengthened. If the only thing he did was add lift springs or blocks the only thing he will need is a little length and it should work.
also has he tried to use it? i sprung over my rear with AAL and got 6" of lift and did not have to lengthen the driveshaft. it flexed like a mug but it never dropped a shaft. may be its different in a ranger - not sure.

its the front shaft that is the problem!! it was a full lift kit that moved everything in the front down(all new brackets and such) and yes I will chech the other sites if no one here has an answer or any info spacifically on this truck. I just use this site often and thought I would try here first.
The guy who did the lift is fronting the bill for the shaft cause he said the stock would work, but my ANAL budddy wants ( thats not cool, a friend of mine who is anal) wants it to be right on the street since he is a mall cruiser. Again its not mine truck, my EB makes all kinds of wierd noises at highway speeds!!!!!

Well actually the noise and vibrations are due to one mount on the 3rd member is mounted solid and the rubber gromet is taken out- so its a grounding problem -lack of mount isolation - so live with trail masters crappy design -or pull the lift out and make him quite that way- I wish there was a better soulition- the shaft will work -but not take care of every little noise on that ride-Jess

I am glad someone finally told me why the stupid thing will make noise. I just hope he is not such an anal bastard that he cant deal with a little noise!

has he driven with and without the front driveshaft for direct comparrison? does it shake only when the driveshaft is installed? not to disway anyone from onetoncv since those are awesome driveshafts - but all i did when i lifted my ex (SAS not ifs lift) is i went to local machine shop and they lengthened it 1.5" and balanced it for $50. never any issues.
i have heard of guys fabbing a bracket to reuse the original bushing to prevent harshness. but most just dealt with it since it only vibrated in 2wd not in 4x...but if he has awd or "auto" then i would spin the driveshaft all the time.
