I just bought an '88 350 TBI. The engine came without the ECM and wire harness. Does anyone knows how to identify the correct ECM (thinking that I'm gonna buy a used one). I know that the original ECM had the Service number 1227747, but it also had other numbers. Are those important?????. Another clue, the engine came with a 700R4 that also I'm going to use..

Any GM computer will work as long as the harness plugs into it. It is the chips you should be worried about.

example: There is a V8 puter with a chip for a 4.3 in my S10 right now. The processor is the same, you just need to tell it what it is processing for.

It's not exactly true that any computer that plugs in will work. The 1227747 happens to have been used on 4.3 and 5.7 TBI engines.

To answer your question, get a 747 ECM from anything. Then you need to call howell-efi or a place that does EFI chipping, order up a chip w/o VATS.
