it's some little vacuum modulator that seems like when it's got suction on it, it would kick up the throttle a little bit. however the way the carb is adjusted it doesn't look like it does anything. i can't find any info about it...i'm stripping all the vacuum lines since i don't have emissions testing and i don't think i could even find all the right little pieces if i wanted to(22R swap into '79 with 20R). figured out the AAP, choke breaker, choke opener but not this. any clues what it is and what its for?

Bones is correct. I think…lol. It is a smog device. As the throttle settles back to an idle position the dashpot slows down its motion (just the last part of its range) making the engine burn more of the fuel in the combustion chamber. Without it, the engine would idle down a little bit faster but would leave more unburned fuel in the combustion chamber and create more emissions. I wouldn't think it would improve performance to remove it. I think it might do the opposite. It is basically just an enclosed diaphragm that has to push air out of a small hole. But I could be wrong about all of this. I hope this helped.

It is a dash pot so when you back off the throttle it does not slam shut sort of works like why your turds are tapered so you asshole does not slam shut!!!!! :shaking:

I almost choked!!!!
Vacuum operated idle up dashpot. Keeps from dieseling on shutdown. Allows for fast idle during warmup cycle. KEEP IT.

what does the line connect to?
i'm going off an '83 canadian vacuum diagram, which only has the AAP, CB, and choke opener setup. if there's an easy way to run a line to that, by all means i'll keep it
