: 22re EFI Swap gas tank question
k5chevyblazer 01-05-2005, 04:24 PM I am trying to install the 85 p/u EFI gas tank into my 84 p/u. but it seems I dont have the clearance for the EFI tank to go in. is this right? and if it is right, do I just need to modify the cab so I can get it in? TIA
pbeach 01-05-2005, 04:36 PM I went to a bone yard and got several fuel pumps from trucks and found one that fit in my original tank. The fue pick up tube I had to cut and then installed the fuel pump.
speeedracer 01-05-2005, 04:41 PM I'm wondering why you can't just get a square fuel cell and mount the toyota stuff in it or for that matter fab up a square tank and install the toyota stuff in it. This is what I would like to do when flatbed time comes around.
bkubisht 01-05-2005, 04:41 PM I remember seeing elsewhere on pirate that for 1st gen truck efi swaps, you want the efi tank out of a 2wd truck. Search to be sure... This isn't in the new efi swap FAQ so it needs to be researched and added.
Also you could use your old tank and an inline pump from an 88-89 celica of course.

my swap is a pre-efi 2nd gen to post-efi 2nd gen.

Ack, sorry. I keep forgetting the '84 models were the newer body style, I get fixated on the head & block easily.
k5chevyblazer 01-05-2005, 05:55 PM ah fawk it, I am tired of waiting to get this truck running. I am just going to cut into the cab and do some patch work later

This applies to street driven rigs, Green Sticker (off road) rigs they do not care about. The problem is if you get caught, it can cost you big bucks!!!! :grinpimp:

luvmeye22refi 01-05-2005, 09:14 PM I had an 89 4runner tank in my 80 toy. Just welded in a new rear support/crossmember and used part of the old tank mount and welded it up so the tank bolted in just like in the 4Runner. The new crossmember also made a nice shockmount too. It looks like you got it done though :grinpimp:

yep, GET'R DONE. Said to hell with it and started cutting. Not too bad though. But I will be doing some sheetmetal work to get the hole closed back up.

They do come in other sizes. :flipoff2: And can be made in any size.
Foxfab 01-06-2005, 04:46 AM maybe try a 1st gen 4Runner tank? They are low in the front to clear the rear seats.
