Can anyone give me specific directions on how to install a set of 69 vintage 3-speed t-case gears into a 76 4-speed t-case?

I'll be installing an SM420 and AA 5.5" adapter with the 10 spline spud shaft. Not sure of the difference in shims for diff. gear sizes. Anyone have any feedback on the JT Outfitters t-case rebuild kits (koyo bearings? idler shaft???)?

I originally wanted to purchase a 16 spline spud shaft from AA and use my 4-speed case (or find a solid early 70's 3-speed case), but funds are extremely low right now (unless someone's in the market for a 10 spline spud shaft :D ).

I've been lurking around the SM420 discussions until I got the case issue resolved, but it's time to just do it as I've got most the parts needed.

Thanks in advance.

I am doing this right now with a plate adapter.
Why AA adapter???? Do you need the PTO gear?
Rear drive shaft is short enough :)

You will need to add or replace with thicker shims....
the Shims on the idler gear...
Just match specs to the proper clearance for the 4 spd case.
I just got $100 worth of shims (many) and thrust washers (a few)
Seals (a few ) etc from Toyota so that i will have all I need and more.
Five buddies also doing the 420 swap with these gears.

Pick up a Chasis manual and then stop by the local toyota dealer or call Spectre and get some shims and thrust washers and follow the manual...fairly simple process...once completed....

Cool. I don't see any problems if it's just a matter of shimming the gears to 4-speed specs. Thats great news. :D

I got the AA adaptor as part of a package deal with the SM420 (shifter; 3-speed bellhousing, flywheel and pressure plate; chevy disc; AA shifter linkage; bellhousing retainer; and the sleeve for the t/o bearing). I've already got flipped rear springs, so all's I should have to do is go back to a stock length driveshaft.

Splurged for the front long travel when Jesse had the December special, and I picked up a rear AA crossmember. Only outstanding issue is whether or not I can adapt the 4-speed clutch slave to the passenger side...

Thanks again.
