: SOA front, SUA rear... ???

I was leafing through an old 4WD&SU mag today and noticed something wierd about their featured Jeep (a blue CJ7 with yellow beadlocks, if anyone saw the thing). It was spring over in the front, but SUA in the rear. Unless the rear was 3/4e (which it was not), what would be the point of such a setup? I didn't think front flex was all that more important than rear flex...

are you sure it was soa f and sua r???? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. The only one's that I have seen that mix and match are SOA rear and SUA front

maybe it was to control spring wrap.

Yep, did that, read them, still didn't find a definitive answer on what the point of the setup might be... figured maybe some of the new folks or folks that weren't in on the first few rounds might have a notion... but thanks for your suggestion :flipoff2: . :flipoff2: .

YJ4's suggestion makes a good bit of sense... but for whatever the hi-arch springs must have cost, and for how they'd negatively affect rear flex, I can't help but think a trackbar would have been smarter. The rest of the Jeep is set up well, so I assume the fella wasn't the type to accidentally put Prep-H in a gopher hole... thus, there must be some worthwhile purpose to it. I just figured some of these tech-nik-lee edumacated people hereabouts might have some idea.

I remember seeing that article too, but with my stores on back issues packed up, I can't find it right now...

I thought the same thing you did. He did things a$$ backwards. he screwed up the front and had to mod the steering, and left the rear alone.

was the owner rich hudson? Sounds like his old jeep and he switched from that setup to SOA front and rear then coilovers in the rear. Most all agree a well setup SOA will perform as well as SUA but give more flex

maybe he just wanted to make you guys all think real hard....and then he decided to put coilovers on it after he got a good laugh
