: Snow Wheeling
Hooper 01-06-2005, 10:46 AM All right, it isn't hard core, but it's the most wheeling pictures we have seen around here recently...
It was icy nasty stuff... and a rough climb to get up to this point... two weeks earlier, there was about 2 feet of snow at this spot... :(
Three beauties in the snow...

Hehehe. Couldn't convince my wife to climb out of the truck, hike up the hill, and take pictures of me crawling up the hill... :(
;)
We were off the Mountain Loop Highway, outside of Granite Falls...

No question his rig is strong. D60 rear RC Ford HP front, 392, rear alloy axles, 4 wheel disk brakes, beefed up drivelines... but it does have some weak points... the 38's are pretty big for a front '44, and 4.10 is pretty tall for tires that size also. He doesn't want to cut the fenders, so he doesn't get much up travel... That size tire, with the tall gearing is pretty hard on the tranny, also...
It is really well suited for the wheeling he does, snow, some mud, light rocks and logs, that kind of stuff, but it isn't a rockcrawler by any means... He built it to be a strong, reliable, family wheeler, and he did a good job in that regard. But, he likes his sheet metal straight, so he avoids the ugly stuff. Not his thing.
Come on Hooper!, when you guys gonna make it down this far so we can go play in the snow? Nothin' hard not Elbe Just the easy trails and roads at Evan's Creek.

We did Evans creek a couple years ago, it was hardly worth the drive... and that was on 33's..... :D

Urban Wheeler 01-06-2005, 07:18 PM Someone got to wheel....
I was going to go to Attica for a new years day run. The plan was simple, fix the flat, bolt the hood down, realign the top so I can put the passenger side window up, clean out the junk from the last trip. When I took the tire off to fix, I found bad spindle bearings, a bad lockout, and a missing brake shoe. I replacd that stuff, plus spindle nuts, spindle, hub, and axle shaft. The shaft was ok, I just couldn't get the spindle off without pulling the shaft. Then I thought I should check the other side. More bad bearings. Fortunately that was it, just bearings. So now every day I work on it for an hour or so before work, and sometimes after work. Now I still have stuff to do, but at least I can drive it if the neighbors bitch.

She can't reach the pedals... Thai.. a little vertically challenged... She can barely see over the dash, and can't see past the hood...
Besides, you think I am going to hoof it up the hill, just so you guys can wheel vicariously..? I think not. You want to see action, fix your rigs and hit the trails!!!
:D :D :D :D :D
Snoopy 01-07-2005, 09:40 AM Looked like fun!
tsm1mt 01-07-2005, 10:49 AM Must be time to add to your fleet, Hooper.
You need an 800 with a slushbox. Hey, doesn't Rick have one for sale? A shiny Aristocrat, even.
:D
Not much "snow wheeling" for me today, though I did engage 4wd.. All-terrains suck at throttling through slush. :(
That's alright.. Sunday I'll air up the TSLs and we're going to go out n' play with the beater Scout. Much more fun.

I'm hoping to do some urban wheeling this weekend... weatherman says we might get snow, although, yesterday he said we would have lots, and now he is saying we won't have so much.. :(
