In a few of the threads that I've been reading on the larger shafts for XJs, folks are saying that they get them for pretty damned cheap. I actually need the ones from a 95 ABS YJ, but I'm curious as to where you guys are getting these for so cheap (other than the junkyard) I've seen some people saying that they get them for $100-$150. Cheapest that I have seen for the pairs was in the low $200s. Fill me in

im guessing you have the vac disconnect...some 94's and 95.5 yjs had em....a guy donw here just sold a set dirt cheap...chekc your local yards. takes a little more time than $$
...if not why not swap a front end with the non disco front axle in and swap shafts iwth one from a tj while your at the yard...2 for the price of 1

Because that would somewhat hamper turning for me :flipoff2: That disconnect is what makes traction so cheap in this D30. Weld it up and pull the home brew cable disconnect. Instant poor man's selectable locker. Assuming that I put another frontend in, it isn't going to be another D30.

Anyway, I was looking for NEW parts. Maybe I was misreading, but it sounded like folks were getting them new for less than 2 bills and I'm just wondering where.

Drivetrain Direct supposedly has the one piece spicer axles for ~100 per side. That's about the best you will get. I have paid $210 for TJ axles and $215 for TJ axles with hubs (good deal since hubs are about 100 apiece). These sets were used but in good condition. You just have to pay attention to the FS boards and be quick. Course now that I have two sets I won't be breaking anything.

i dont think you can retain the vac disconect and get the 297 Joints...

i think all YJ's had Vac Dis and small U-Joints

and all TJ's came w/o Vac, 297 Jts

YJ'guys step in here if the latemodel's came with both

Still thinking about the poormans locker (i have a D60 with Vac Dis) does it really work...i would think that the drivers side front tire (always engaged) would hamper turning >????????? wouldnt 2-low be easier ????

Nope, the 95 YJ's had the 297's and the vac disco......try randy's ring and pinion or drivetrain direct too. They might have 'em.

When you call Drivetraindirect talk to Dave 888-584-4327 ex 117 and ask for the "Phil Jensen Price" since you are a freind of mine ;)
My price on TJ shafts is $95 long side and $89 short side. Call for YJ pricing.

I get special pricing on everything from them due to multi-million dollar volumes of business I send their way ;)

HTH,
Phil Jensen

BINGO! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Phil, I'll give them a call and see what I can get.
