Just a stock k5. Right now I have 4.56 limited slip rear and 3.73 open front. I am upgradeing the rear to a 14 bolt. what are the chances the ring, pinion and carrier are the same?

If your K5 is still bone stock the rear should be a 10 bolt as well as the front. If they are still bolt GM Corp. 10 bolts then yes, i do believe they will swap....

The carrier in a 14 bolt is going to be bigger than in a 10 bolt, usually the 14 bolts come with 4:10 gears with a 10.5" ring.:D

Sweet, Atleast I can use my limited slip carrier up front though. Besides 4.56 front and 4.10 rear just means let more air out in the back! :smokin:

If you have 3:73 in the front and 4:56 in the rear I hope your not putting it in 4WD, cause your gonna blow something up, like your xfar case. Are you sure on the gear ratio. If it bone stock the front and rear gearing will be the same.:skull:

I would not recomend running 2 different gears, in 4wd,espescially on solid ground, sooner or later your transfer case is going to bind up, as a short term fix you can remove your front drivline, to save your transfercase, untill you can get the same gears all the way around.

The front and rear gears were the same until I blew my 10 bolt about 2 years ago. Bent the housing, cracked the carrier, broke all spiders off, and chipped 2 teeth off the ring. I replaced the rear with 4.56 gears sto compenste for the 35 inch tires and then some. 4.56 has been an excellent ratio, with OD I hit 80mph right about 2800rpm.

I have been using my 4 wheel drive but Only engage it when I get stuck in the thick stuff and disengage it before I get out of the thinner stuff.
