: Naches - another IH gathering this year?

Well?

I realize it is winter, and that this will happen in the summer but, we should all plan ahead, right?

Ben, do you want to do this again this year? I myself would really like to see this happen again.

Naches is cool, or....somewhere else?

:D

Sounds like a great idea to me. Lets find a date that works for all and I will be there. :D

I'm certainly up for it. There is alot of good trail mileage we didn't cover last year. I would also be up for doing it down in TSF if people would prefer that. Or both :D. If we do Naches again, the earliest we could do it would be the end of June. The PNW4WDA Trail Jamboree is July 7-10 so that weekend is out. The WeROCK Washington event is scheduled for July 15-17 so that weekend is out also. I like the last weekend in July, 7/29 - 7/31. Same weekend we did it as 2004, the weather was about perfect and I don't think it conflicted with anything. May as well start a tradition.

Hey Ben, I would be game for that as well. I don't know why we haven't hooked up before, I stopped by Blackdogs shortly after we (Wud Wheelers) went on our last Zillah run and before he sold his beautiful show quality Scout on Ebay. He said something to the effect that you were disapointed that you weren't invited. If I had known that you lived so close I certainly would have given you an invite.
I'd appreciate it if you would keep me posted on this, Thanks Lynn / YETI / wudwhlr :grinpimp:

TSF, or Naches, or another NW location. It matters not to me, I just would like to see a tradition of good friends and good times keep going.

If TSF was a place that folks would want to try, I am sure TmbrTank or Binderbound and Diesel Smoke could put something together that would be a good time. TSF is always busy though in the summer. Naches seemed almost deserted when we were there, something that was nice for a change.

Lets plan on Natches, then make a run for TSF later in the year more toward fall (after NWBRU and what every you guys are doing down there)...

I had a great time, and I'm sure we could get a couple more folks this year....

For some just plain good camping and old mining road wheel'n the Samon-la-sac/Cle Elum area off I-90 is pretty nice/fun too....

hmmm, how many IH camping trips can we fit in a year :D

We didn't get to the good trails last year. For various reasons the pace was so slow that we only covered about 1/4 of the trail mileage I had planned. We barely finished the warm up trails. At the pace we were going it would have taken 2 days to run Shoestring. :flipoff2: Hopefully things will go a little smoother this year and we can run the good stuff. :cool2:

We did it in my wife's little bronco back in the days when she was running 36" TSLs and 3.0 gears. boy we sure could have used some better gears.
that day was long since we did about three trails - but it was fun - fun.

I cant hardly wait until I have a drivable scout and go out and play too.

If I remember correctly the creek was just down the hill from us. Not too far at all. I should have jumped in it last year riding around with no top/doors/winshield:D!

I don't know, with the drought this year the creek may be pretty small. There are public showers at Gold Creek Station, 9 miles down 410.

There is plenty of room for a motorhome if you end up bringing it.

We did bust so kids in Toys Sunday on Raven's Roost. 3 friends and myself were on the trail up top and the were "spinnin Brodys" On one of the small meadows. We gave em hell for it, they got assholy and took off. PUNKS!

I wish it were that easy guys. The agreement was 12hr days 6 days a week. That's what I signed on for, but the boss told me today it will be closer to 16hr days. I will get per diem, drive time(even tho' I won't be driving it the boss said we were getting paid for it), mileage, and 65 hours of OT a week. I will be supervising a crew of union carpenters in the top of Lincoln Square (?) building a high end restaurant - Manzana grill. I will have Sundays off, but I doubt I will have time to wheel, so I am leaving the "tank" at home. Unfortunately I won't be able to change my mind and come home to get it later. HOS and Rusty if you guys are really close I would always be up for a beer in the evenings and all day on Sundays. Otherwise I am afraid it won't be until the middle of October before I get the chance to wheel. I was so looking forward to some dry rocks for a change.

Ken, Manzanas is owned by the Pacific Coast Restaurant group. they own Stanfords, New port bay, and a few other stores. We service all the hood systems on all their properties, both Portland and Seattle. Money is no object to them. They spare no expense when it comes to their properties. We will miss you up there. Maybe next time.

Ya we (R&H Construction) do a lot of Pac. Coast's stuff. Most of the Stanford's we did and we have been RE-doing all the Newport Bays. The overtime budget alone is evidence of their "spare no cost" attitude and abitlity. Who exactly do you work for? I personally haven't worked on any of those projects yet and am not familiar with the subs. Are you in HVAC or sheetmetal fab or something more restaurant related?

And yes I will saddly miss you guys too. I was really looking forward to this years trip. We will get some wheeling in this fall tho'. I have a line on some private property that may be available for event hosting or possibly even a new OHV park. I will keep you guys posted as I learn more.

We are not running the Naches Trail. We are doing trails in the Naches, WA area. We will be running Kaner, Shoestring, some other misc. trails and we will spend a little time at the Funny Rocks and the Moon Rocks. You are welcome to come, you would want to bring your Rover, a Travelall will not fit through the trails very easily. Certain spots may even be tight for a Rover, there is a good change you will get body damage.

Read the thread from last years trip, there is more info. There are also a few pictures and a writeup about how the weekend went on the last couple pages.

Anyone who is planning on coming to this run must have a spark arresting muffler. No glasspacks, cherry bombs, or any other straight through muffler. It is a Forest Service rule, and it is strongly enforced, I've been checked in camp, on the FS roads, and they have even had officers checking rigs at the Funny Rocks. You should also have a fire extinguisher and a shovel in your rig.

Also, some basic vehicle requirements-

4wd required
Strong recovery points front and rear required
vehicle must be safe and well maintained

33"+ tires and rear locker recommended

All makes and models of 4x4s are welcome, be aware that anything larger than a Scout is guaranteed body damage.

PS: flowmaster ok? Looked at their site, no "spark arresting" info

RustoleumWhite

Flow master should be fine. The basic test is can you stick "something" (i.e. a stick or piece of wire) all the way THROUGH the muffler. I glass pack is a strait tube with fiberglas on the sides.. i.e. you can look through it. Most typical mufflers have some sort of baffling, so you can not look through it.

I just got some bad news. One of guys I work with is quitting, so I will not be able to attend this year :mad3:. The Great Oregon Steam Up is the same weekend, and usually it isn't a big deal for me to miss a show, but with only three full time employees, when one quits, it really throws a wrench into the works. I am really pissed about it, but understand. So all you have a great time, I know Dan is working his ass off on little green and from his progress report last night it should be quite unique one it makes it up there.

The muffler shop in Zillah has a spark arrester for $75. It has the stamped USFS seal of approval on it. It is 3" in diameter and mounts at the end of the exhaust. The muffler guy said that he rarely installs them though as a standard muffler is good enough.

I don't think I said that? I said you are going to have a tough time convincing a ranger that they are not glasspacks.

Yes most mufflers are good enough. The ones that are not good enough are glasspacks or cherry bombs. Those are what the rangers look for.
