I just spent about 2 months looking for the best price and I didn't want to pay tax, well first of all your in CA. and A.A. is in CA. so unless you want to pay about the same in tax to have it shipped to an out of state dist. and them have it shipped to you from them theres no way out.
I found the best price was the dist. they did the mass buy from on this site about a month ago, I think it was in TX. somewhere, initially I found decent prices on the t-case but when I added in the front output upgrade out of six different dist. they all totalled out to about $2500.00 bones+, some of these dist. had great prices on our intiall conversations but when it came to telling them I'm ready to order some how the totall jumped to the average of $2500.00+ I ended up ording it from local shop in Burbank, CA. called the 4X Doctor.
Here are some of the prices I got for the 4.3 ratio, t-case/ output upgrade, JD offroad in KS. I think $2200.00/214.00, Darkhorse offroad in UT.$2085.00/$295.00, all I'v got on this dist.is a #800-504-5337 $2092.00/$217.00, Crawl tech $2090/$181.00 most of the dist. qouted me low $1900.00ss on our first conversations, and no tax because they were out of state, well they didn't know what they were talking about, A.A. policy is if its dropped shipped CA. to CA. they are going to charge ST. tax.
I didn't list the other dist. cause they were average of $200.00 bones more than the ones I listed.
What I ended up going with was the 3.8 ratio for $1830.00 with the output upgrade for $200.00 +tx. & shipping, I finally decided unless I found a smoking deal some where that could tempt me into taking the chance of sending my money out of state to some shop I didn't know I'd rather give my bussiness to a locall shop who deserves it and gave me a decent price also, I don't know if they would give this price to a stranger I kind of know the guys a little bit at this shop so if you decide to call and expect this price don't be suprised if it goes up a little bit.
Well with that said, Happy Hunting:)

Tonto,

What's the benefit of the upgrade front output shaft on an Atlas?

Comes with a 26 spline standard front output the upgrade is to a 32 spline, although I'm running a Dana-44 right now if I came across the right deal I would love to go to a Dana-60 I probably will so I would just like to be ready for the additional stress's.
Like to plan ahead, cheaper in the long run.

As tonto said, CA residents will have to pay tax, even if they are purchasing the atlas from an out of state distributor. The CA tax laws are weird, if the end purchaser is a CA resident AA is considered the retailer, not the distributor the customer is buying from. For all CA residents AA will have to pay tax on the sale, so they charge the distributor, therefore the distributor has to charge the customer.

Now if you were to ship to a friend living outside cali you wouldnt have to pay tax. But who would do something so un ethical?! :D
