I am in the process of a frame up resto for off road. I just pulled my 350, sm465, and tcase. What I found was a little disturbing. The person who installed this 350 (not me) used the AA motor mounts with the disk bushings. On the passanger side (the motor had twisted slightly) the bolt of the motor mount was half sheared off quater of the way on each side. Also the hole in the mount was egg shaped. On the drivers side the mount (P.O. did not weld) was loose enough to turn completly around the one rmaining bolt throught the frame. I guess I was lucky that the engine didn't just jump out when wheeling. When I ge the frame done and it is time to reinstall the 350 I want to use better stronger motor mounts. Any good designs out there??? any pics to post?? contacts???

Thanks,
Greg

The AA motor mounts work fine as long as there installed right. I would weld the brackets to the frame, and use grade 8 bolts with lock nuts to run through the rubber puck.... I don't think the motor mount bolt would have sheared if the frame brackets were welded on.
I have seen a few different mounts, the sturdiest was the kind that has a channel that lays over the frame. I didn't care for these because it limited the ammount of up and down adjustment you might need to properly locate your engine.
I ended up fabricating my own, they sort of resemble AA's but I beefed em up a bit...Haven't had a problem yet!:skull:

i sheared a mounting bolt on my first cruiser, too. i had some buddies that were former toyota mechs for numerous decades each and had a shop around the corner from me take a look at it and help me pry the engine back into place and they said maybe i shouldn't be downshifting at such rpms...my cruiser wasn't a sports car. hhmmm, but it had those tiny 33" tires....doesn't tiny tires make it a sports car?
