79 scout 2 with 345/ T-19/ model 20.

How many splines on the front output. Its raining and I am lazy.
I just had a long slip shaft made but it is bottom'd out at ride height. So it off to cv shaft I go.

More $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

i think he means the yoke is bottomed out, not the slip joint. he needs to know the spline count so he can get a cv yoke so he can run a cv shaft instead of a single cardan joint at the tcase. my 300 is 29, or is it 27 i forgot. oh well. anybody?

you do know that a CV yoke will NOT give you more angular capacity than a single joint.. in most cases (there are exceptions), it will actully force more angle into the front drive-line because of the length of the CV unit its self.

just food for thought unless you have already work this out.

As for the spline count I couldn't tell you off my head... might be able to find out tonight if I remember.

A course spline D20 has 10 spline shaft.... the newer fine spline D20 has 26 spline shaft. Being a '79, yours should be a 26 spline unless the t-case is an older unit swapped in. IIRC, the standard output yoke is the same yoke used on a stock D44. As you seem to know already, using a CV shaft will require you to switch to a different yoke for the output shaft. The Spicer part number for the 26 spline CV yoke is 2-4-4341.... but hold on to your nuts when you get a price. Depending on who you call, they can be kinda pricey.

Hit the jeep boards..

I found 2 CV yokes for my 10spline D18 for $10 & $20 (Used & new) from guys here & on JU.

(yes I need both).

Yes the yokes are bottom'd not the slip. And yes I know it will put more angle on the pinion U-Joint but the axle has been cut and turned so I can afford it there. I currently have about 2* shaft angle from the pinion.

The only think I am looking for is what spline count I shoud have.

thank you MECHANOS

It is the original T-Case so how sure are you it will be the fine 26 spline count?

thanks again

I would think that the chances are better than 95% that it's a 26 spline, but there really is no way to know for sure without checking it. You wouldn't even need to pull the yoke, just remove the nut and washer.... it should be pretty easy to tell 10 splines from 26 splines... even without counting.

If you don't want to check, then I guess you gotta ask yourself, "do I feel lucky?"

Don't count on it being a fine spline. I had a d20 out of a 1977 that had a 10 spline out back and a 26 spline in front. Either way, the cv yokes are easy to come by. Call parts mike.

Well the front is what I need anyways. Does anyone know if there is a way to run some numbers or something like that.

thank you all very helpful.

just for everyone's info it is a 26 spline output.

thank you everyone!!!
