I'm still trying to find them here in Portland. I guess we aren't up to speed here. I need to buy five of them. Who has the best price.

I'll post pictures if or when I break them.

Not sure where you all have been looking, but after some gentle persuation, convincing that the part does exist, and a long distance phone call to Spicer by them, NAPA, all the way up here, in lil ole Westbrook ME, was able to get them for me.

Price was a couple bucks more than 297x's as I recall.

Not sure what Jesse's prices+ shipping are, but I bet NAPA can't beat him.

Check it out though.

No breakage info for ya yet Jesse, the axle is still in pieces in the garage waiting for some warm weather. ;)

I got a set from DTD after I gave up on my local places. Actually, Rosser got me a set, but they were PDQ. I took 'em back and told them Spicer or nothing (I was even driving on 1 fronmt axle at this point). After I bought mine, a guy from JU said he saw some testing by Superior or OX one and the 760x failed before the 297. I think it may have been a fluke, though. IIRC, the 760 just has smaller grease channels. Spicer does not advertise them as stronger, though.

Sorry to continue going off Jesses original topic, but the Napa I dealt with is a DC in this area. (NAPA AUTO PARTS (207)856-6991 ,180 LARRABEE RD WESTBROOK ME, 04092 )

They have a long line of phone #'s on the counter, one of which is Spicer.
They called them, with the part #, were given the wholesale price and ordered me two sets, in this instance.
Had em in two to three days as I recall.

Don't even mention 297X or what it is for.
This will infuriate the parts monkeys, but will keep from confusing them.
Tell them 5-760x u joint, its not in their system, they need to call spicer to order it.

I actually went to a spicer dealer, that said they had them only to find that they had 297x's.
They had no idea there was a difference, or how to get the part.
Go figure.

jesse asked me to post some pics of my broke 760x's

here they are sorry for the quality of the pics

i had the left front tire under a ledge when it went and only backed up about 10 feet on it after it broke, but it seamed to do no more damage than was done with one quick pop
i think the caps went first but it hard to tell it bent the crap outa the full circle rings 3 caps blew and one ear on the joint
i think that a tack weld might have helped the caps but who knows, I have no comparison with a 297x cuz i have only run the rig once and it had 760's

Rockmonky---those are interesting pics.....some of us in AZ are experiencing the same kind of probs with the Dana44 uj. It seems the half clip falls off and the cap works its way out causing total destruction. Once that happens, it's hard to say what went first---the cap or the core or the ear. Even the full clips can't hold it when the groove cracks and separates from the rest of the cap. A friend of mine is trying something a little different...he has tacked some thin fender washers over the 4 caps. Some of us here have to do a close cap inspection before we start a trail. Dam clips.

Dunno what went first the cap or the cross but either way here is another broken one. Right frt shaft had Moser shafts and 760's. Shaft survived but spread out the yoke pretty bad and had to have the caps tacked to get another joint in it.
