I have cut and raised the floor in my project and clocked the atlas flat. Everything but the actual transmission mount is flush with the bottom of the frame rails now. I am using an A/A adapter plate between a 700r and an atlas case and I am struggling with a good transmission mounting setup that would let me cut the bottom 1" off of the adapter/mount and then use the stock rubber trans mount. Any Ideas or especially pic's would be appericiated. I am assuming the hanging transfer case would put way too much stress on the tranmission case to just put the mount on the stock 2WD location ???

Ideas or coments.

I cut 1/2" off my Atlas adapter (I have the same setup as you) and used a factory rubber mount. Another way (I may end up doing this) is to bolt a peice of stock to the AA adapter then put thin bushings under and over that. Do you have room to mount the adapter upside down and make a tube x-member to the frame with spring bushings?

Yea, It is about a half of an inch. I do not have room for inverting the adapter as I raised the drive train so high in the chassis. I am considering cutting and welding the adapter to get the rubber mount high enough or as you suggested bolting a couple of brackets to the adapter that allows the mount to ride about a 1/2 inch below the stock 2WD location. The only other idea so far is to cut the foot off and use several smaller countersunk bolts to attach a "z" adapter to it which would once again have the mount riding in the near to stock 2WD location.
I guess I just need to get over it and choose a route. This has been a bogger but can not procrastinate much longer. I want to be into the suspension by this weekend.

I may be misunderstanding the problem, but what about some sort of saddle mount. A bent piece of thick steel uner the mount, with the bushings at the end. I am picturing something like Woddy's setup, but with the ends pushed higher up into the frame. Would you really need the stock mount with the bushings at the end of the crossmember??

Woody, I followed your link and checked out the pic's.
Are you planning to have the original 2WD transmission mount location on the transmission case support the weight of the transfer case hanging on it. I was concerned about all of that leverage breaking the 700R case. DO you know for sure if others are getting away with this or am I seeing it wrong.

YJBrian,
The problem is that the foot of the adapter/mount hangs down about an inch below the transnission pan and becomes the sole obstecle and has to be cut mostly off to keep from raising the drive train higher. After it is cut it is flush but too thin to be beefy enough and the mount that bolts to it is another 1.5" in the wrong direction for creating clearance.

The 4wd transmissions I've seen all mount like Woody's. My NV4500 mounts on the tailhousing and the transfercase hangs from it.

This sounds like the easiest way to go, I had asked advanced adapters about doing this and they advised against it but you know how that goes. I had a t400/208 combo once before and I thought I remembered it mounting from the adapter. Anyway I was just concerned about the offcenter weight and stress of the transfer case all hanging from the back of the 700R.

Make sure you have a poly bushing in the middle like Woody's. Bushings on the ends with only adapter to xmember (no bushing) in the middle will NOT work. I sheared an adapter in half this way, others have also.

I run a 2WD Suburban mount to the 700R4, from a chunk of 4x2 flat that runs across the frame rails.

according to the manuf of my adapter (Sunray Engineering) they've had no issues with that. Considering some of their buildups, I'm not worried. The case/tranny will be WELL skidded tho (3/8 sheet of alum, rail to rail, totally flat) and (if you continue thru the linked thread) the motor is getting identical poly mounts.

I guess I see the point of that. If the rotataion due to torque is transferred the length of the mount to the fram rail, it will need to move much further to have the same give as the undermeath mount.

In this case, the poly mounts at the end are there just as a matter of mounting/removal convience?

exactlee....allows for some frame flex if it exists, and convenience of removal of the tranny-tcase in the future.

I place it at that height specifically....first it keeps things level and keeps the bottom of the tranny above a skid plate level...additionally, it allows room OVER the mount for an exhaust pipe to clear easily....
