: Men or women in the driver's seat?

Are men or women instinctively better off road drivers? I'm not talking about who is braver or who's the majority out there. I want to know in your experiance taking a man and a woman who are interested in off roading with no experience which is the better technical driver?

I think that women are better instinctively because they have more patience and because they are more willing to listen to the pointers of their spotters and remember what they did last time. Men on the other hand seem to correct their rookie mistakes with the throttle and tend to ignore the direction of their spotters. For some strange reason women tend to get to a certain point in off roading and then back off on what they will try. It's a damned good thing too because if they didn't chicken out there would be a lot more women making us look bad. ;)

Answer the poll and give your reason.

When it comes to wheelin I think my husband is a very good teacher from behind the wheel, as a co pilot, or as a spotter. He always tells me about the do's & don'ts when on the trail. I watch other people on the trail & ask him questions. I am always learning something new with him. He wants to make sure I am prepared for what ever may come my way. He was really proud of me at EJS because I went up the widow maker & dump bump. People mentioned it the next day & my husband said to them that it was my first time wheelin. People were surprized because they thought I had been wheelin longer then that.

Right now we trying to purchase a comanche that doesn't run. It's our project so we will be working on it together & that is going to be fun.

I don't know if you can really break it down by sexes.

Instinctively, most women have more patience but you also need that gut feeling of how far can I go?

I voted women- not being biased or anything like that.

If you were to say "instinctively" better, wouldn't that mean, no spotters, same truck, same course?

I'd have to say guys. In most cases, men understand mechanics better and would be able to pick a better line. Also, in most cases, men have more guts like they're willing to do something a little bit more dangerous and push the limits where as most women would rather stay safe, ya know?
Women have a steadier hand and are more gentle. That's prolly the only thing women have going for them in most cases. If you were to find a woman (like many of the PBB ladies) who understands how to pick lines etc, and they don't bat and eye at pushing the envelope, then that woman is going to spank everyone. But, in comparing how most women are and how most men are, I'd have to say guys.

Gawd that hurt!

My thoughts on the subject, are that women are MUCH better off-road drivers when there are technical areas that require a spotter. There are too many guys that don't take instructions well. The guys may stereotype women and say that they don't listen, but it's the guys with their macho attitude and *its my rig* bravado that makes them not listen to their spotter.

Women on the other hand, will take the advise (this may be nullified if advise is given by their significant other who they happened to be p*ssed at the time).

The rest of the time, when no spotter is required, its probably even.

I voted men.
I personally think that if you asked 100 men and women at random, if they'd even want to try any type of off-roading, odds are the number of men that would agree would greatly outnumber the women.
So, it's pretty tough to be "instinctively" better at something if you aren't even willing to try.
And obviously, every woman on this board is quite the exception to the average female, and we've all seen the evidence for this over and over again. The attitudes of the women are not the average attitude of women... unfortunately.

I guess I would have to say women would be better for the same reasons listed before.

They are more patient, they listen better, they are more willing to back of and try something different than trying to force the issue.....that kind of thing. :D

It just depends on the person. I know some guys who absolutly suck at driving and i know some women that are amazing drivers. I would say independantly a man and a woman can be equivalent (both really good or both really bad)
