I'm currently debating what gearing options I should entertain. I am currently running a NP435 (6.69 1st) and a D20 (2.46) with 5.39 gears in the pumpkins. I realize there are limitations to what I can actually do as far as compatibility of cases goes. I have played with the idea of an atlas 4.3 case, but would like to maintain a near stock low range if possible. I would like to avoid dual D20's because with my 38's (maybe 42's in the not too distant future) I don't think the output shaft will be strong enough for the long run. I would like to investigate a Klune V 2.? box and an Atlas 3.8 case...but I have no idea how hard it would be to mate them. Anybody have any great ideas for an EB?

I have an NP435/203/ebd20 in my YJ .......
The Klune looks good, but it is REALLY EXPENSIVE, like 2800$ or more I think. Plus they don't make an adapter for the dana 20, because it would steal sales from some other kit they use for the 20 (this is what they told me). So if you go Klune, then you are going to need a 231 or atlas to fit your current config. Klune + Atlas sounds sweet, but that's ~5K in parts, bud. Also the Klune will increase your driveline length at least 6 inches, could be up to 8 inches depending on what you are putting it between.
The dual 20 transfer case is nice, but increases your overal drivetrain length by 6 inches or more.
The 203 doubler kit (which I have) is cool, and does not increase your overall length signifigantly. This will double your ultimate low range, while allowing you to keep your current low range also. BUT it does mean keeping the 20.
If you are worried about output shaft strength, there is a kit out now to address that:
http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/dana_20_ouput.asp - I haven't yet heard any writeups about how good it is, etc etc.
There is also the Tera Low for the 20, but that only gets you to 3.15:1.
There is also O'Brien's gear sets which will get you to (I think) 4.88:1, but they are VERY expensive.
Personally if I were you, and you didn't want to keep the 20, then I would go atlas of the things you mentioned.
If you want to keep your 'near stock low range', and still get great crawler gears, your only choice really is a dual tranfser case option, and I'd do the 203 doubler. You COULD go to a 203 doubler + Ford NP205, but again you are increasing your drivetrain length. I'm not sure how much extra drivetrain you can get away with in an EB, but I'm sure it's not unlimited.

The engine sits alot further forward on Eb's and the rear driveline is actually managable with some extra length... if i go Klune+ Atlas i may go ahead and lengthen the wheelbase by 6-8"

OK, well if you've got the cash to do klune V + atlas, go for it! I'd like to see that - the only one I know who has it now is Jason Bunch's rock crawler.

Hey Chad, did you do the 203 doubler yourself? I'd like to do the 203 but don't like the price tag that goes along with it...

Let me redirect the info I've already gotten... Will a Klune V mount to a D20 temporarily? Will an Atlas II bolt to the back of an NP435? I'm worried more about extra adapters that will cause me headaches than I am worried about cost of reducers.

No, I bought it used from H8 ....... note to everyone, when H8s building something, hang around and wait for part scraps ........
but you're right, it is kinda pricey. But I didn;t have access to the resources necessary to make my own. Did you see Chris Waterman's article? He made his own and it didn't appear TOO hard. Of course, he had access to a machine shop ........
If you DID make your own you might be able to clock everything more.

My information when I looked into this was that a klune would not mate to the bronco dana 20, and they did not make an adapter for it because it would cut into sales of their other product. Of course, my 'looking into it' stopped as soon as I saw the price of a Klune V.
An atlast WILL bolt to an NP435, WITH an adapter. Basically you will need an NP435 - Dana 300 or so adapter, or probably some other combination. Point is it won't bolt to your stock setup, to my knowledge. I belive if you phone AA they will try to sell you the 435 to 300/231 adapter and then make the atlas with the same input as a 231 or 300.
In terms of adapters I don't think it would be any worse than the 435/20 adapter you got in there now.
H8 now has this combo, ask him.
