Ok,

I've got a 1983 GMC 3/4 ton, and the carbs not worth a dime. (Q-jet).

So, here are my options.

1. Rebuild the carb that's on there.
2. Rebuild one of 2 other Q-jets that I have floating around
3. Buy a new Q-jet (edelbrock)
4. Buy a holley. (I'm using this as a tow vehicle)

My other question is that it has a 700R4 tranny. Is there any sort of controls from the carb (vacuum, electrical) from the carb to the tranny for control? (Just in case I use one of my "older" carbs for this?)

TIA

Your Q-jet probably has worn out bushings and is sucking air......

The 700R4 has a "kick down" cable instead of vacuum like a TH350, so you need the correct linkage for that. BB Q-jets are jetted fatter.

I would snap up a new one....

Yea, I guess I should have said that the current piece-o-crap that is on there is missing some parts. :D So, in order to get this one going, I'd have to hunt at the junkyard anyway.

Well it's not really a kick down cable on a 700 it's what they call a TV cable. Best way to describe it is as a throttle position sensor. It allows a progression where as a Kickdown cable, like a TH350 or Th400 has, tells the tranny you just gave it full throttle hit passing gear. A TV cable will tell the tranny to hold a gear a little longer. On a TH350 the vac modulator controled the "hold a little longer" deal. The 700 just uses that cable and no modulator.
The gain is vac changes with altitude so from a design standpoint the TV set up is better/ more consistant.

Why go spend > $300 for a new edeljunk Quad or even a high dollar one from JET. GO to NAPA with $140 in hand and get a Holley rebuilt. I've had good luck with these.

I went this route after I forgot I left my edeljunk sitting on my rear bumper and proceeded to run it over twice. It was a chromed POS anyways.

Edelbrock q-jets are ausem

the cabel is for the tranny; it tells the trany when and when not to shift (from my understanding) that TV cable is :rainbow: I dont like that methed. The vac is the best way (on 350/400) but thats a lil off topic
