: !.3L injected idle races up and down?
seabastard 02-12-2002, 09:51 AM I have a 1992 1.3L injected Zuk and ever since the engine was replaced, the idle is constantly waivering up and down. This is especially noticeable when the engine is first started up when cold and has been sitting alnight. Anyone got an idea or two as to what may be causing this and how to troubleshoot and correct it? Thank you.
SeaBass44 02-12-2002, 04:57 PM banned, say bu by:rolleyes:
ZOOK94 02-13-2002, 04:48 AM Are you serious about banning seabastard? Why? for the name? I didn't see anything in any of his 7 posts that would merit banning. If you are that edgy about people having screen names that are close in syntax to yours, maybe you should change yours to total gibberish. I may get banned for this, but come on, get real.
FLEXYSAMMY 02-13-2002, 06:17 AM I think I will have to agree with you Zook94. That dose seem kind of harsh.
SeaBass44 02-13-2002, 07:33 AM no, I don't care about the name or being called names, that was kerry, the webmaster knows when it's the same guy.
UZI 9mm 02-13-2002, 08:18 AM the shadow knows........:D
as an aside though, it's kinda too bad because i was hoping to see if there were any helpful replies.
my 1991 injected samurai has been doing the same idle fluctuating when first warming up, for the past few years.....
it's always run perfectly, never too hot etc. but that reving up and down bugs me.
(and yes, i have changed thermostat, sensors, etc. etc.):(
it must be known by someone by now, both injected samurais and 'kicks have evidenced this same problem over the years.

on a toyota this problem is caused buy low coolent, just a little air in there and the sensor hits an air pocket reads wrong and fawks with the idle speed:(
UZI 9mm 02-13-2002, 08:38 AM hmmmmm. thanks for the tip- i must admit to not really thinking of that one....i always have kept coolant at the same level, but now that you mention it, it has always been on the "low" side versus over filled. (going by the reserve tank level);)

Damn, I wish Seabass just dumped the guy and didn't have to bring any attention to it as I also wanted to see what people would have responded. My Tracker does the same damn thing. It started doing it after I changed some oil seals on the front of the engine. Only does it when it is cold, or right after a start up. Otherwise all if fine, and I do have plenty of coolant.
Oh yeah, and I hate that CHIP's dude that Seabass has.. Where's the goat?

bobaki 02-13-2002, 12:16 PM sounds like its lean ...................vacume leak?....:D

Of course it was Kerry. The username, so-so grammar, and posting in orange weren't dead giveaways? Maybe I cheated, what with using the force and all. :vader2:
I was wondering when anyone else would catch this... It's too bad though. He was a *little* blatant with ads on an occasion or two, and we all know about the cluster-f**k that happened when he showed up with his twin-stick, but he had some valuable input on the Sammy side several times. Especially adapters.
Enough with the Kerry talk from me, though. He's unable to defend himself here, so I'll stop.
Tech value: When my 22RE had that problem, it was the heating element in the O2 sensor that died, so it wouldn't maintain a steady idle - especially when the engine was cold. Try getting a cheapie replacement from autozone, and take it back "because it didn't fit" if it doesn't solve the problem.
UZI 9mm 02-13-2002, 01:02 PM hey, long time no see, Mr. Bobaki:beer:
i do have a K&n and had thought that *may* contribute to a leaner running condition, (but the ecu would have the scope to adjust for that small a parameter wouldn't it?)
i have checked for other "leak" kinda related stuff, and come up blank.
thanks too, Yotasan-
i had swapped out the 02 sensor to see it's possible effect, but it was not a new one, so i didn't feel fully confident with that attempt. for the relatively negligible cost of a new sensor-ya, i will pop in a brand new one to confirm yes/no.
i have found diagnosing problems on my Zuk that all point to "standard procedure" sort of swaps/repairs only to be broadsided by a loose main ground wire..... grrr don't even ask about "igniters" in MY household.... :D
rotozuk 02-13-2002, 01:56 PM I've got a new header and O2 sensor in there now.. But I think you might have hit on something here.. I'll check to make sure that wire is happy and all.

Mine was doing this also... I did a full tune up (including cleaning injectors, replacing fuel filter, and adjusting idle) and the problem went away.
man, sloan_3_24_74.... it must suck to have to type that out all the time:flipoff2:
 welcome m'boy:D
i have done that MANY times over the last few years (tune up/injector clean/fuel filter/idle) and also replaced thermostat, 02 sensor etc. etc. .................never cured it.:p
