: Wiring a new trailer

I've got a new utility trailer, and I had to install my own lights. So, I went to Wal-mart and got a set of two wire trailer lights and some wire. I ran my wires, (4 wires, 2 from each light) and hooked them up to the truck and I have some serious problems.
My taillights only work on the left side, none of the blinkers work, when the RH blinker is on (in the truck) the LH taillight (on the trailer) blinks opposite (on when blinker off, off when blinker on). I've checked the ground and that is all good. And I found a strange thing. I checked continuity on all the wires and sockets, and everything is good until I put a bulb in the RH side, the RH blinker grounds out but when I take the bulb out it is OK.

This is probably all pretty confusing, but maybe somebody can help me, I am kind of thinking the RH light assembly is no good, but I looked at it and compared it to the other side and they appear to be the same. I'm puzzled, help.

thanks, Chad.

i can't offer much help, but be sure the trailer is attached to the truck (at the ball or whatever hitch type you have). the trailer uses it as a ground too. i had some weird problems until i hooked it up and then they all went away. my probs were a bit different than yours, but try that 1st if you haven't. I had the same problem on a trailer when I used just the ball to ground my lights, make sure you hook up the ground wire on the trailer frame. Grounds can do some funny things.

make sure you hook up the ground wire on the trailer frame.

agreed. i was assuming that was done. you do need both.

Also if it uses those little connectors that clamp around the two wires, make sure they are really tight, and didn't sever the wire
