in swapping in a 71 f motor into a pre 3/69 fj40, is there anything i should know about? i've heard it is tough to pull the motor without pullin the tranny. why is that, and is there any reason it can't be done? any other tips/tricks i should know. i'm assuming this to be straight forward but am new to the 40's so any help would be appreciated. thanks.

The 69 and 71 motors are largely identical...you'll find few differences.
The engine sits on 4 motor mounts, while the tranny and transfer hang off the back. There is no tranny mount and no transfer mount....other than the engine itself. You have NO CHOICE but to pull them as one unit, and it's easier anyways. Remove the front bib from the cruiser, both front fenders if your motivated, and the radiator. Drop both driveshafts, speedo, e-brake, etc. cables. Remove the 4 motor mount bolts and out she comes. It's just almost that easy. heh heh...
