: Best Fan clutch for 350

I'm ready for a fan/clutch combo for my 350 install. I did a search and found 80's caddy and caprice with tow package, but I need more specifics so I can get one. You all know the old part store routine.

So what I'm looking for (I think) is a 19" fan with a heavy duty clutch.

What model / year do I ask for, and how many blades?

I've got my mind set on a fan/clutch. No electrics and no flex fans.

Thanks, Brian

Hey Bones,
When you get your fan/clutch, make sure it is the "thermal" type. Some stores also sell a "torque limiting" clutch.
The thermal type engages the fan when the temp goes up, the torque limiting fan disengages when the RPM goes up.

So...when you're overheating....pulling that big hill at low vehicle speed (no forced air through radiator)....engine RPM high......the torque limiting fan clutch is disengaged!!!!!!

David

Might also check into the Sububan fan/clutch combo (one with extra cooling and trailer towing)

Get one from a diesel chevy 6.2, or from a caddy with the seven blade fan..........:skull:

Hey Ranger, Do you have a year/model caddy I should ask for?

The thing is, I'm trying to get this thing done for TDS and I'm running out of time quick. I don't have time to go to a junk yard. I was hoping to get one from a local parts house so I need specifics.

Thanks.

I looked high and low for #'s but wasn't successful. I did the junkyard thing when I got mine. I don't remember the exact year the fan and clutch came out of, but it was a mid 70's caddy, if that helps.......:skull:

Mine came off a 2wd 74 Chevy pickup with a 454 and the camper package. Key is the 7 blade fan, clutches are easy to get. Fan might not be an easy parts-store buy, but the junkyards will be full of fans.

Hell, it's only 4 bolts to remove in a junkyard....by the time my parts geek looks it up and orders it in, I could have wasted less time walking thru the junkyard. poking under hoods.

Definitely go with the thermal clutch if you pickup one at the parts store. I went Reg duty since it was much cheaper, but the HD one would be a better option. IIRC, it locks up tighter and at a lower temp.

Thanks everyone, A coworker was reading this thread over my shoulder and said "Hey, I've got one off my truck you can have"
Sounds like the right one too. :D
