I dont know how many of you watch 4x4 tv shows on a regular basis but, I find my self in front of the tube from time to time. I happened to see Superlift off road TV today and there happened to be a early 80-800 scout climbing a nasty little hill. What got my attention was the announcer said "and here comes a dying breed the SCOUT" then he goes on to say "so for all you Scout fans here you go" and it was like a 30 second clip. What I dont under stand is.. if 4x4 (as a sport) is blowing up then why are we all the sudden "the dying breed".... Is it because the JACK Asses at Superlift think the world revolves arround the JEEP Rubicon?

The Scout should be seen as a mythical BEAST...that when spoted all should pause and remove thy hats :flipoff2: Not as a fuking dying breed :mad3:

Well thats my vent of the week...add to this what you will .....But at the end of the day Superlift still sucks BUT NUT!!!!

I seen it also. That Scout would have climbed it better if his carb didn't stumble. If you notice the Heeps were doing what they do best........BREAKING!!!!!!!! :)

as long as theres jeeps out there, there will always be a need for a scout to pull them out. in fact, i pulled one yesterday that had high-centered. runing 31's, and his famous words were, "thats the first time i've ever been stuck", and proceeded to tell me he'd been all over tellico and crap. yea whatever. but hey, at least we can buy our toys cheap right?

What does the announcer voicing his opinion have to do with Superlift sucking? We need more mfg's like Superlift sponsoring televised events for our sport considering these TV shows are few and far inbetween. Doesn't superlift also have a OHV park?

Oh well.

Just to drop my .02 cents in but Superlift really has alot of respect for Scouts as I have participated and coordinated most of the Superlift trail rides for the past several years and honestly, I dont see alot of Scouts participating other than a select few. It's aleays good to see other Scouts out on the trail especially on media covered events like Superlift Offroad Adventures but there just arent alot of Scout owners willing to "pay to ride", which is understandable as most Scout owners I know already know how to wheel and dont need the benifit of an experienced trail guide to show them where to go.

Superlift did suffer from not going to "other" venues as they have had their events at the same locations for the past few years but hopefully this will change this year as some changes are being made. I will admit that the announcer is a real "crackerhead" but thats what you get when you hire a "voice" and not the knowledge. Trent is pretty cool and always gets a kick out of watching me roll my Scout so he can have a chance to "borrow" my tires again. ;)

Yes they do Joe. It's located in Hot Springs, AR (http://www.orvpark.com/index.php) and is an absolute blast! Check out the "WMS Run 2004" in the "gallery" section for some good pics.

get a life..

Scouts use basically the same running gear as jeeps. I dig scouts but to bash one vehicle type is just dumb.

As for the Scout's being a dying breed - I don't think so. 15 years of wheeling and I never paid any attention to them.. till now. I am not the only one so that's a sign. Also, rock crawling has divided into the hobby and the sport. If your into the sport your not gonna run a full body rig, period. If your into the hobby and you actually want to drive it you have two choices I think - the early scout and the bronco. Atleast those were my choices. I tried the jeep thing and although it was a blast it just wasn't a daily driver vehicle I'd want to cart my family around it. I picked up a FREE scout 80 and another one that was basically free ($200). Not gonna find a bronco for that. I plan on fixing up mine and keeping it..

I think Scouts are gonna grow in popularity myself, but time will tell..

Quite possibly but that doesnt alter the fact that the newest ones are still 25 yrs old. Which means that some parts are rare-not available except used, which in turn means that iffen one uses a definition of availability and/or newness to "dying breed" Scouts are a dying breed. Add additional popularity to the equasion and they become a "rare-endangered" species... :D

if ya put it that way yea - it's dyin.. but what isn't? Even jeeps are dying if you call a jeep a CJ or even YJ, esp. the M ones..

just wanted to put my 2 cents in... most definetly not dying, im only 16 and i got my '74 scout when i was 10, didnt really get into until about a year ago but i love it and all my friends do as well, one of my friends actually just bought another scout after he realized how much he liked them. just cuz they are not a 2005 vehicle doesnt make em dying right? scouts dont die they just keep going, amazing vehicles, but hey, thats just my opinion, and who cares about that anyway?
