I am cutting down a Dana 60 with kingpin type outers, what kind of steel are the outers made of and what kind of rod do I need to use to weld them back to the tube. I found this bit of tech info while searching, I wanted to make sure this is infact correct before I make a costly mistake.

Quote:
" High nickel rod is not required, the knuckles are not cast iron or grey iron or even nodular. They are cast steel.

7018 will work well"

Is this correct?

Thanks

I weld them with a mig, nothing special.

I just bought a used set. I priced a few new sets around and I thought that they were made of GOLD ! I mean Fawk ! I thought I was going to have to take them to the U.S Mint to get them grafted on.
