got a 420 and considering rebuilding, bearing and syncros, any ideal on a parts location. is the rebuild a plus or should i just run it , while it's on the ground would be a good time to do the work. thanks for any input.

They are relatively easy to disassemble and reassemble while you have it out, so I would take a peek. The wear specs and inspection procedure are in the GM transmission manual and can be downloaded from a link in the following page:

Even if you don't want to disassemble it, take the PTO cover off and check for metal chunks on the magnet. Chunks and flakes can be a sign of impending failure, so if you find any you ma want to look further.
