jdjanda 02-12-2002, 03:24 PM Are you adding bead locks?
Cliffy [JD] 02-12-2002, 03:27 PM not in the near future, maybe in a couple years
Scout Dude 02-12-2002, 06:44 PM Oh, were we supposed to let everyone know when we got new stuff?
My wheels showed up yesterday.

15x10 3.75" bs (well, 3 of them were:mad: )
TERRA-IZER 02-12-2002, 07:11 PM Cliffhanger, where did you get your wheels from and how much did you pay for them, i found 2 sets of those 15x8 8-lug white spokes like yours used for $20.00 apiece but if new ones aren't much more i will get new.
tsm1mt 02-12-2002, 07:58 PM :pout:
I didn't get any new stuff today.. I keep saying, "Tomorrow my tires will be here, tomorrow!".. yet still no Watkins truck, and no UPS from HF either..
My 15" 8-lug wheels are black spokes, no perdy white stuff. :( Got two 15x8 and two 15x10s.. one of these days I'll put 'em to use, too. :D
Rustoleum White has a new toy he needs to show off...

LOL. No, I bought the pipe bender from JD2. :D
HF is sending me an air powered grease gun (because I'm lazy), some Nitrile gloves so I can go to work and NOT look like I wrench on cars for a living..
A double-flare kit (I only have a single flare kit..)
And most important, the pneumatic sheetmetal nibbler so I can fit the 36" TSLs from 4WPW. :D
Sawzalls are not the cleanest device on somewhat rusty metal - mostly the quarter will just flap around and you don't get a lot done (I have video of this phenomenon.. we cut Manley's quarters in the picnic area at RMIHR a couple years ago..)
I think OldScout had mentioned some time back how slick the nibbler works.. so I'm gonna give it a try.
The 17cfm will put the scare in my 1hp 2-stage compressor though.. it'll think I'm porting cylinder heads again. :D
Scout Dude 02-12-2002, 09:38 PM It might have been me about the nibbler. Mine kicked ass...until my roommate touched it. He has the anti-midas touch with my tools. He breaks EVERYTHING. Anyway, I think that I just need a spring to fix it.
I want an air grease gun:(

Are you sure the nippler is going to handle the non-rusted 16 ga sheet metal?
Just got me ball joint remove kit today, and a bearing puller. I'm thing about buying a press so I can setup gears maybe make a little Scout money on the side.

No, not sure. Probably won't help much when I put the fiberglass quarters on, either.. ;) But we'll see.
It'll cut thicker and was cheaper than the Shears.

I got the ball-joint kit a while ago. Used it to remove U-joints thus far. I think it really needs to be in a vice to be useful (something I'm lacking until I get my workbench set back up). Still haven't tried pressing my balljoints back in yet.. *soon*..
Almost ordered the bearing puller.. and I, too, am next looking at a press for gears and such. I hate bothering my friends to do R&P setup..
Scout Dude 02-13-2002, 06:11 AM that nibbler will cut 16 gauge just fine...but, for some reason, it doesn't like 16 gauge covered in bondo:)

I got one of those 3-in-1 ball joint tools as well.... never tried in on ball joint yet, but it sucked for u-joints. Ended up using the old fationed hammer method, old u-joint are STUCK. Couldn't generat enough force with the 3-in-1. Imapct maybe would have done it, but the hand method wasn't. Don't think I've used it since. Press works much better (actually, next set of u-joint I do I'm taking to a shop. For what it costs them to do it, I don't *need* to mess with it).
You don't need a press to do gear set-ups. Get a large bearing splitter and a 6"+ 2-jaw puller (cheapos work just fine). I think my puller is a "JET" brand, and the splitter is a "Formost" (might as well be HF). Those and a nice 3-lbs dead-blow hammer (the orange ones) and you can do them no problem. Last couple set-ups I did, I only had to pull the carrier bearings maybe twice. I started makeing "set-up" bearings, but found it really wasn't worth it (not to mention is is a PITA to make them).
I shop press IS a nice thing to have though... need to get a new one. My old one bent/was a POS, and I don't work at my old job anymore wich had all the toys.... damn, I need a shop and about 10K to fill it.......

It was a mo-fo pressing the BJ's out  Tried it in the vice no go. Finally set it on the floor, put one foot on the knuckle and stomped the wrench. Once I got it under a lot on tension I tapped the end with the 5lber. The little bit of shock popped em loose. Lot's of elbow grease later and all four where out. I'm thinking about the press idea also, I'd like to start setting up my own gears, plus I have two or three trannies and t-cases to rebuild and sale for Scout money. With a press and pullers I can start doing rebuilds for a little extra Scout cash.

I didn't care for it just for pressing U-joints *out* (and one half of my driveshaft U-joints in).
Kept wanting to "walk".. which is why I think putting it in a vice and having a hand free to JUST deal with keeping the U-joint in place might help..
I used my impact wrench to run it. I managed after a while but.. yeah.. I was ready to reach for my hammer n' 3/4" deepwell socket again. Seemed to be faster and easier than this big C-clamp thing.
..but.. I bought the spiffy tool and I HAVE to use it at least once.
I sure hope R&Ring my balljoints will go smoother. At least I only have two to replace (did the other two last summer).

Hope is works better for you than it did for me... From my experience with it, I would say you'd better go ahead and order a 2 or 3 replacement die&cutters for it. I bought one, got it home and after 6" into a piece of 16 guage galvanized, the cutter shaft snapped in half. Took it back to HF and exchanged it for new one. That cutter lasted about 1.5' worth of cutting before it was so dull it wouldn't cut anymore. Back to HF to get a couple of replacement cutters. You have to buy the cutter and the die. $10 a pop... I bought two. I now have more invested in the nibbler than the cost of the shears:mad3: and still didn't like the performance on long straight cuts. Back to HF and bought the shears. Even though they say upto 18 guage, I have put about 20' worth of cutting on 16 guage galv. with them and they still zip thru the sheeeot like it was hot butter and it was a hell of a lot easier for me to get a straight cut out of them than it was for the nibbler. If I had it to do all over again, I would say :flipoff: the nibbler and get the shears.
