Ok, Now I am sure I know what i want but dont know the best way to get it done. I have a 73 cj5 with a extremely clean frame so its a decent base to start with. I also have a 73 cj5 frame that has been completly boxed and is waiting also. i just cant decide which one to use. I havent found any cracks yet in the one i am running and I wheel pretty hard.
the other things is I am wanting to go with SOA and wider springs. I have 4 great looking cj7 rears waiting to go but evry cj5 I see them with is like sky Fawking tall. Would it be better find yj springs? I only want to run about 35's or 36 tsl's. I know I could do that with the sua but I dont want to.
The Jeep has 33's and a 4" narrow lift on it now and I am using scout 44's for the soa. I want to lengthen the wheelbase without it looking stupid. I figure I can do it in the front but what about the back? I dont wanna have shackles and shit hanging out in the open back there. Or do I? Also I dont mind cutting the body so I could cut all the way to the tailights and I dont care.
So give me your ideas and send me your pics of 5's with somthing resmebling what I want to do. It would be nice to see what you guys have done

I have a 72 cj5. I boxed the frame and I went soa on CJ7 rear laredo springs, these springs are really nice cause they are military wraped and they flex like crazy I run 35 boggs and they fit with plenty of room. To lengthen my wheel bae I used MORE's shackle reversal with buggy leaf. It lengthened the front buy about 2 inches. The pic shows the jeep on 33 swampers but as u can see it has plenty of room. Pm me if u have any questions.

Here are some shots of my Brother in laws project! We are doing exactly what you are thinkin of doing. Lengthened the 73-CJ-5 13 inches and are going with full width axles and 38's. The springs you see are wrangler packs. We didn't feel SOA with these packs would be enough to clear the 38's so I fabricated another 3 inches into the frame perches while going outbard at the same time. Boxing the frame has kept the IN LAW busy for about 15 hours so if you have one that is boxed use it!!!   http://community.webshots.com/scripts/editPhotos.fcgi?action=showMyPhoto&albumID=30721321&photoID=31176598&security=hkjdvmEndV

Use the boxed frame.
My 65 has been half-ass reinforced and needs to be boxed before the cracks get worse.
We sleeved a the rear frame with 2x4 and then used angle iron to recreate the cross member. Then moved the rear shackle hanger back 4". I used Waggy springs for the SOA and boxed the spring hanger.

Wekk I used YJ springs with an extra leaf to stiffen them up and then moved the rear spring main eyes back 4inches

Well here is what I am planning. I got a 73 as well so here it is. I plan on stretching and boxing the frame and body, probably to scrambler length in case I ever want to put a top on it. But I don't want to have a foot and a half of overhang in the rear so the plan as of right now is to stretch the frame between the tranny crossmember and the rear spring hanger. Then stretch the body along the bottom of the door frame(I'm 6'3" I need some room). If it were me I would start with the boxed frame to save you a little time. The upsides to this that I have found will be no rear driveshaft angle problems, stock rear departure angle, more interior room, more stable going up hills, and more engine/tranny options. The only real downsides I've found so far is losing a little turning radius and losing some breakover angle, neither of which I think is a big deal. Another thing to keep in mind is with a stretch and more cargo room you will probably be carrying more and that may make your lift with the CJ-7 springs less than a regular 5. What's everyone think.
