Has anybody ever done it??? if so, exactly how much of the tranny do you need to dismantle?? b/c I have the tech manual, and it gives a tear down, but not what you need to tear down to rebuild it.... if I could get ANY help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

You need to take it all the way down, and keep every thing VERY clean! Many people have rush it and end up with a tranny that is junk.

Look like my notes are further behind than I thought, Buy a good rebuild book, they are only $14-20.

Search around for an older 70's repair book.......maybe E-bay or used book store. Easier to understand for the non professional.

As Mr.N said, keep a VERY FUCKING CLEAN work area, did I say keep it clean.........lol

If ya don't wanna fuck yours up, snag one from a junk yard to practice on.............c-4's aren't that bad

Also check out those videos that show step by step how to rebuild them.. I know they have one for a C-6 but not sure on the C-4. I remember seeing them on JC- whitney but a google search should probably be fruitful. I had a friend who used one on a Heep and said that with the video everything went ok. Just a thought,

Biggest thing is take your time, make sure everything is CLEAN when you put it back together, remember the way everything comes apart, and have a digital camera handy to take pic's of the parts that you have no idea where they go so we can help you. :flipoff2:

--RyanI'm 12 hours into mine, but I'm real annal and take some picture along the way. Plus I'm making mods and now looking for a place to turn down the steels.

I'd guess 12 hours total, first time.
Get 4 rolls of the Scotch Blue towles
4 cans of carb cleaner
3 gallon parts washer
Vaseline
Start cleaning the outer housing now, get all the dirt off!

vaseline is for holding gaskets and check balls in place, probably for lubing seals also.. it breaks down pretty much immediatly in the ATF.
