: Why not a 1.6(Kick)-Kicks trans-KluneV-Kick t-case?

If a lot of us are runnin 1.6L (Kick or Tracker) engines, why are we mating to Samurai trannies and t-cases? I know the Kick trans is better but what about their t-cases? And, is a Klune V available for that combination?

I read a thread about Samurai trannies exploding using ultra low gearing, or is that just a select few? Also, how are the Sammy t-cases holding up with the same gearing?

I've had a GRSII with 3.72 r&p's for about 3 1/2 years, and haven't broken anything but a couple hundred t-case mounts! But I want to go much lower with my gearing and I'm trying to wiegh all the options.

Thanks,

The 4wd kick tranny & tranfser is all one unit.. you can get lower gears for it but it still has a 1:1 high range.

The 2wd kick tranny is longer than the sammy tranny and you'll need to move your tcase back to run a klune in there. Will the klune even mount up to the kick 2wd tranny??

I'd say get the Klune if thats what you want and keep the sammy tranny, if it blows get another or rebuild it..

There is allot of new things out right now for gearing options, SOS stuff and OTT stuff, Klunes, Sumo gears etc. You just have to decide which route you wanna go.

I'm thinking of going with the new OTT kit and running a Kick tranny, and reduction box with a toyota transfer case, a kick axle (with 5.83's). Dual Cases a 1.8 (kick) and 4.0 or 4.7 in the toyota case. Would put me around 180:1 or so, should be low enough to run 32's comfortably around here. Not sure about highway running though.. might still be geared too high.
