I am looking to put a set of Full Size Jeep axles under my cj-5. I recently found out that there are kits made so you can do this. have any of you used any of these kits, or have any that you recomend?

never heard of any kits other than the homemade chit that the folks here have come up with, the rear is easy but the front has to outboarded for the pads to work,,, not a kit made that I know of,,,,

Avalanche is making kits for that these days. I know someone else is, too but don't know who.

For the Information of all....I've talked with Avalanch, and they want $375 for the kit. Matkin Engineering wants $155 for theirs, so I'm trying to figure out the difference between. Does anyone know what I should look for? ie:what thickness metal, what parts SHOULD be included...anything?

I talked to Matkins about theirs, and really like their attitude towards them. Call them if you haven't already.

I'm going to make mine. I'm no engineer, but from what I've seen on this board after searching, they look easy enough. I've already got some 2x4 (.125) tubing, that I will be using. If you have access to a welder, do it your self. I seen the avalanche kit and it is pretty lame looking. All it is, is a shackle reversal that sticks out of the frame.

The (only) website I have for them is http://www.printandgo.com/matkins , but it doesn't appear to work. They have ads in all the trade rags for frames, and such.

i think the avalnche one fro 375 includes a stinger bumper, powder coating, and all that jazz. i was over there while they were packaging up some prototypes, and the looked pretty sweet. i would opt for the competition stinger with the kit though, so when you roll, it saves your radiator. i've seen the bruiser roll quite a few times and it always pivots on the stinger saving the hood.

http://www.bigjeeps.alloffroad.com/images/hanger1.jpg Just to give you a idea. This is one of the hangers we have built for our 77 CJ-5 that has a full width Chevy Dana 44 front... As you can see the spring hanger has been out boarded from the frame..

You would only NEED to outboard the passenger side spring mounts (because of the Diff location), right? You could just move the spring perch on the long side. I'm thinking this would be the easiest way, although not the most symetrical. Would there be any problems with this approach?

Kurt out at avalanche hooked me up with a stinger and full width kit back in november right when they were first taking orders for them. The main reason I got their kit was the fact that its adjustable to different spring lengths using the reverse shackle and stinger setup. Im running alcan springs that are 6" longer in the front and their kits adjuts for that. Granted if I had the time, it would be simple to do one myself. But I dont and Kurt and the bunch at the denver/littleton location was very helpful. Otherwise if your looking for other alternatives, give john or casey a call at wagoner machine. they make them also here is their web site www.wagonermachine.com
