: What Kind of Milage Are You Guys Getting On A 2F Engine?

I am getting 15+ MPG on the 2F in the LV, and that's without compensating for the recorded mileage lost due to oversized tires. I was thinking that I heard and was expecting around 12. Is this due to a kick ass carb rebuild or do all 2Fs get this mileage?

Mine does, but I have been fiddling with it for years.
Jim C did a good job, but it was jetted a little rich. I changed out the jets, and make sure my rotor is in good shape, and replace all the plugs every 6 months...

I am getting 14-16 mpg in my 2F. I used to get 9-12.
Doesn't start as easily as when it was jetted fat... :D
I just wish I knew what I did with those fat jets....

I'm not sure I want to figure mine out :D What is the "correct" way to figure gas mileage with oversize tires? I'm running 35's...

I am sure the carb rebuild had something to do with it, but with headers and a bit of careful tuning, F/2F's can do pretty damn well. I spent a decent amount of time tuning my F motor in my 1973 FJ55 before a drive across the country and back and pulled a little over 16.5mpg for the round trip. People always claim that the 2F gets so much worse gas mileage, but I think its just due to either a boatload more smog stuff, or a desmog where the carb is not re-jetted...

FJBen,
I use GPS, and it works well for me. Any time I am going to make a long trip I just reset the trip and fill up somewhere.

I get about 10mpg with a carb that Jim C. setup for off-road performance. Currently on 33s with 4:10 gears in the diffs. I am happy to live with the bad mileage because when wheeling it will run at angles that cause other Cruisers carb problems. :smokin:

74 FJ40, ~13.6 MPG used the GPS to calculate based on a short trip with 30% City and 70% HWY, 4:10 R/P, 35 MTRS, F Motor, Headers. I think it uses like 1 gallon just to warm up.....its old and tired...

My stock 78’ FJ40

On the trailer = Amazing mileage :D

On the road = With the flogged carb was coming in at 10’ish and a F dizzy. (PO :shaking: ) The new Jim C. carb is standing by I just need the time to put it in. Same goes with the freash from So-Cal OE 78 dizzy! (75lb box came yesterday with lots of 78' OE goodies for it!)

Well, I am completely desmogged with headers so I'm sure that helps. Mark did a great job of rebuilding the carb and tuning the motor, and for that I am greatful. All I know is I NEVER expected to have this much power, this kind of mileage (and I was told the LV is about 3-400lbs heavier than the 40), or this much fun with the 2F or the LV. I go out at 4:45am at 32 degrees, pull the choke and zzrrrroooooom... fires right up and purs like a kitten. Can you guys tell I'm STOKED?

On a side note, I pulled it into the local Toyota dealership. Wasn't a busy day and within 30 seconds I had seven guys climbing all over it. It was good fun. :D

I get about 10 m.p.g. with 31's and a rebuilt carb from Jim C. He did a great job. I guess I could try and get smaller jets though. Never really persued looking into that. And boy howdy, I hate all that smog stuff on my engine. I've tweaked my carb a ton and looked over everthing that I can think of and despite all the smog stuff it still smells like it runs rich.

Gene, my dead-stock 57K-mile '75 CA-spec pig got 14-16 on the trip home from L.A. to Missouri, seems to be getting about the same since. It feels like it's pretty lean...

I'm get'n 12 to 14 with a Weber 38 (it came with the motor) and 35's. 12 is driving and wheel'n 14 if just driving.

11.5, with 37" MTRs, 4.88s, desmogged (by a Jackass), not re-jetted, not tuned up.

LCJ, I'm sure it's on here somewhere and I could find it by using the search button, but, what carb/dizzy combo do you have?

It one of those thing I never try to calculate. I figure its a 4x4, if I was concerned about mileage I would have bought a compact car. :flipoff2:
